Have you ever been part of a gang in school? I was never really in a gang, though some might say I was the leader of the nerd herd.

I was part of the hippie culture, but the straight people as we called them were more gang like, we tried to spread peace and love.

Yes sadly I was. Had nothing to do with school though. Pre-teen to early teens. There were 4 gangs around the area. Not the same as today though, we had a pack that no weapons would ever be used. Just your fists 'n boots, so nobody ever really got seriously hurt.
I'm ashamed to tell you our name was the "Saints"

Edit: I do need to say that I'm talking small town stuff here not big city. Those guys would have laughed at us! But for small town stuff we sure did have some good fistfights down at the railroad tracks! lol

No, but I don't know if y'all have heard of Nicky Cruz..

At the beginning of this year, I read his book "Run Baby Run"
It's a true story about his life, he was the leader of a gang in
NY.. he was mean and killed people, etc..
Well, this pastor David Wilkerson reached out to him..
and even though Nicky spat in his face.. he kept trying..

finally, Nicky became a Christian, and an author.. he also
led (or leads.. not sure which one) Teen Challenge, he lives in
Colorado now.

Right after I read the book, I wrote him a letter telling him I
think his book is great, I'm a new Christian, etc
and he wrote me back! He wrote me a long letter,
at the end he signed it with "Stay in your beautiful faith"

And his assistent sent me a care package, included were about 10
of his books to give out here in Afghanistan! It was awesome..

anyway, I told you all that to tell you that he's an awesome guy
and y'all should check out his book :)

Amazing <3

Hi Kimberly!

I read "The Cross and the Switchblade" back in the early 80's when I was in Juvenile :D

The book was very, very inspiring and helped me to understand Jesus. Although I've never met or wrote Nicky, I felt like I really connected with him and his story, especially when he handed back the offering. As he was being transformed, I felt like I was being transformed. Prior to Juvenile, I was a 12 -13 year old runaway and although I wasn't part of a 'gang', there was a small group of us that looked out for each other etc while living on the streets.
