Having the Spirit but not walking in the Spirit.

I submit that we must be so turned over to God, that we know when we are following His leading vs. following our leading.

We all have failed in this for lack of understanding, lack of grasping this truth, the very thing Adam and Hawwa forfeited when they chose fleshly knowledge as opposed to His life, His indwelling presence and 'still small voice'.

Well..
since we are born of God now and the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us,
we then walk with God.
Walking in the spirit is having a relationship w/God because the HS is OF God.
WALK WITH THE SPIRIT/WALK WITH GOD.

A constant daily effort to hear Him. Way to many distractions in our lives. Eliminate a ton of it. Stay focused on Him as much as possible in your walk. Prayer and praise. Make these things your priority all the live long day.
This is drawing nigh to Him as He draws nigh to you. When you get some of this as routine, you will know when He speaks to you a thing. This takes practice and experience.

Example: many times we'd be sitting in our living room when the Holy Spirit would touch us saying in our hearts 'go see your mother'. That's 645 miles away. We'd be on the road in 20 minutes. Full assurance of faith in what He just said.
Recently I've been going back on the street to witness. I would feel that slight nudge to do so. When I got to the street and started walking in to the crowd of street people, His special anointing would touch me....joy unspeakable.
I hope you get into this adventure with The Lord. That's where He wants us. That's where He's at. That's what this is all about.
Not sitting behind closed doors every Sunday and calling that 'serving the Lord'.
That's Barnum and Bunkum. Satans deception. His dirty little secret.
Your wasting your life away. He told us to take this gospel out and into all the world.
What 'in the world' are we doing?

No doubt. This is how we prepare ourselves to walk in the Spirit.

Operating in your gift is a wonderful and necessary duty of the believer, but I think that's secondary to what matters most. Many, many in the church, across all denominations first think of the duty of their gift when they hear 'walking in the Spirit'.
 
Today I was on the front porch with coffee in hand. Feeling His wonderful presence. Boom! The Spirit told me to get up and go downtown where a mission is at. Street people everywhere. I've been going down with my guitar doing some gospel songs, touching a few lives at a time.
John Lennon approached me, a young guy look a like. He started the conversation. He saw copies of our movie 'Maddy' by my chair and asked for one. Great. He got one.
Then I told him the John Lennon story of the 3 months Pryor to his death, how God was drawing him unto Himself. He said he never heard that story. I told him that he probably won't be seeing the story in Rolling Stone magazine anytime soon.
So God had me go to this mission just to witness to one young man named Pete. Please throw up a prayer for him. God's on top of it. I might be seeing him again.

Great story.

But from here the church is so terrible at telling people like Pete what life they're being saved to. The thing that matters more than anything else.
 
Right Edward. I believe it is a constant 'keeping our minds staid on Him'. I know that that can't always be done literally, but as much is within us to maintain a constant connection in our thinking and our prayer and praise toward Him all the day long.
This will lead to Him speaking to us with that 'still small voice', whereby even the birds hush their singing. Praise Him people. Praise His matchless Name!!
 
Negativity has been my biggest monster to deal with. You know the boo hoo deal..poor me. What a monster. I regret to say that only recently have I been able to plunge a sword into the beast and gain a great victory. A childhood deal, screwed up family, you know, all the tools at Satans disposal to keep you down for the rest of your life.
And then get kicked around by the clergy caste. Oh boy. I'll stop.
But keep up the good fight bro.. God gave me a prophetic word a while back. We all know it but it becomes powerful when He reminds you of it. He said when things start getting ugly and tough, and they definitely will, praise Him. Slip right into praise and worship....silently is fine....if you r able, out loud. Smear the demons faces in it. For me it does cause him to flee.
Maybe not immediately but the devils will skidaddle. They hate it. To bad!

I think you missed the heart of the issue in your response. You mentioned having the Spirit as a sort of confirmation of being born of God. But I gotta ask just how do you know when/that you have the Spirit?

When asking this question in the past people having given some very noncompelling responses like:
- I feel differently inside
- I no longer desire the things I once yearned for
- I feel _________

It amazes me that people are convinced that the above responses confirm ANYTHING more than that of a person's preferences changing or the ability to control how one reacts to their desires changing. People feel differently inside for 1000s of different reasons and people's desires change throughout life. These things do not stand as compelling evidence for God's Spirit being at work. Keep living long enough and one quickly comes to realize that they are simply part of the human experience.
 
I think Dave has left the building.

The fruit of the Spirit is the manifestation of the Spirit that confirms the presence of the Spirit in a person's life...specifically the fruit of love for others. Biblical love, not the world's understanding of love. Biblical love does no harm to another.

Love is the obedience that confirms the presence of the Holy Spirit in salvation. Following the way of love, and all the other fruit of the Spirit, is how we walk by, or according to, the Spirit.

I too heard this story for the first time just the other day while talking with another brother.

Seemingly the fruit of the Spirit applies to people doing good things (Galatians 6:10). The implication from Galatians 5:14-6:10 would appear to be saying that if a person is living a life of love for his fellow man, then that is evidence of them walking in the spirit.

What we are not told is that the love man is called upon to exhibit can only be practiced IF one has the spirit in them. Evidence and life experience shows us that love and faith in God do not always coincide for there are those without faith that are extremely loving, patient, and giving while there are those with faith that do not exhibit those same loving charactor traits.
