I was watching a very short video in which John Piper was speaking about memorizing scripture. It was important, he explained, because the Lord speaks to us through His Word. You cannot have a conversation with Christ without the Bible, but the Bible cannot be with you everywhere, so we need to commit it to memory and carry it in our heads.
The Word is also a tool to use against the enemy. It is imperative that we carry the Word with us at all times, because the enemy lies in wait.
And something that I came to, in reflection of this little video, is that we must OWN the Word. OWN IT! Not just know it, own it. Know it's meaning. And make it mean something to you, because just knowing what it says isn't owning it. You have to know what it says to you, what it means.
He is my "blanket"
You are going, huh? Refuge doesn't mean much too me. I know what it means, but I don't have an intimate and emotional connection tot he word "refuge". But I got to own that verse. How? Make it my own! God gave the Word to man so that man could make it his life. Well that means finding meaning in it. That means that the Lord if my blanket. All my life I have always found amazing comfort in a blanket. Covering my legs up, even on the hottest nights of the year is a requirement before I can go to sleep. If I don't have a blanket I don't sleep, simple as that. As a child I had one blanket, it went with me everywhere I went and it never got washed and it got much love. Even thinking about that blanket makes me want to cry.
Just wanted to post this, people, we need to own our Lord's Word and find the very personal and emotional meaning in it, the meaning that is unique for each of us.
