Theme-The Superiority of the SON
The main danger the author warns about is that of his readers going back into Judaism and specifically the sacrifices of the Mosaic Law now rendered inoperative by the person and work of the SON Who at the cross had brought the temporary Law of Moses to an end and the Law of Christ(Galatians 6:2) for the church age from Pentecost to the Rapture.
Hebrews 1:1-3 gives us the theme -8 specific areas of SON's deity
The author will deal with the superiority of SON over the 3 bastions of Judaism ie angels, Moses and the Levitical priesthood.
Hebrews 1:4-2:18-the superiority of the SON over angels in his deity(1:4-18). Hebrews 2:1-4 gives us the first warning which is the danger of drifting telling the readers that they have a superior revelation from a superior Person so a heavier judgment for readers than for those under the Law.
HEBREWS 2:5-18 the SON's superiority over angels in humanity.
HEBREWS 3:1-6-the superiority over Moses; in HEBREWS 3:7-4:13 comes the second warning concerning the Danger of Disobedience in light of 3:1-6.
HEBREWS 4:14-10:18 deals with the superiority of SON over Aaron and the Levitical priesthood.
In 4:14-16 is the Better Position-High Priest in Heaven not earth.Always available for believers.
HEBREWS 5:1-7:28 a Better Priest-the Order of Melchizedek is superior to the Order of Aaron and as the author develops his argument he delivers GOD's third warning in Hebrews 5-11-14 which the danger of failing to progress to maturity.In Hebrews 5:10 the writer wanted them to understand the theology of the O of Melch but because they had regressed and become carnal in their faith he was concerned they would not understand.In 6:9-20 is the certainty of Salvation.
HEBREWS 7:1-28 the priesthood of Melchizedek.Based on little information in Genesis 14:18-20 and Psalm 110:4 God makes a number of comparisons and the theology extensive.
