Helene relief

Hi guys. Just wanted to open a post about good places for one to donate money or other resources for the work being done to mitigate the disaster that was Helene. She turned out to be quite a nasty Jezebel. But seriously, for those who are able, I know that the World Central Kitchen is in the area preparing thousands of meals.. Of course, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Samaritan's Purse are all well established disaster relief organizations that do this kind of work. I know that as God's people, we can offer help in such times of need. Prayer is always needed.

Reach out to me and we could organize a concert to raise funds for that purpose. Not sure if posting email addresses is allowed here however.

I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about setting up a concert. Nor am I at all involved in music, beyond just listening to it. You should probably find someone else for that endeavor. But I'm just saying that many christians have an amount of wealth or abundance of assets or just money, and their are hundreds of thousands of people who need a hand right now trying to get their lives back to some sort of normalcy.

So, if anyone on these boards is so blessed, then I'm encouraging that they find a good and reputable charity to donate to. If they are of able body to go and actually do some of the work on the ground, there are, I'm sure plenty of relief agencies that would use your help. But money is quick and easy and allows these organizations to have the funding needed to give the help that they do.

When I went through hurricane Andrew in Miami, I was very, very thankful for the food bundles and water and diapers, as I had a new baby 2 weeks after that storm. People are hurting. And these are our fellow neighbors and this devastation, overall, is worse than any of the wildfires or earthquakes that we've been hit with.

Whenever people have told me they wish they could play an instrument I tell them that there is no point to music if there is no one to appreciate. So when you say only I see supporting music by your presence as an important part of the process. :)

That said, our corporation handles the details, we just need to get the word out when we put something together with the professional bands we work with in this area.

Example, I am working on putting together a fund-raising concert in support of the American Cancer Society. The largest cancer research non-profit on the planet :)

There is so much destruction. And it’s not very far at all from me. Here cleanup has been ongoing and the power has been back for over 1 week. An internet 🛜 service outage is an issue but that actually happens periodically anyway.

When I turn on the local news 📰 a bigger sense of the reality of the situation hits. Death injuries job loss houses damaged homes destroyed people waiting patiently for the power to be restored schools 🏫 closed etc.

I dunno 🤷‍♂️ obviously I’m thankful 😌 that my parents and I came through ok ✅. I’m glad that the small city 🏙️ I live in is largely functioning again but…

My bubble 🫧 is not the real world 🗺️ it seems.

Hi Christ_empowered

Yes, I'm in Anderson SC and the eye actually went right over my home and the city lost a lot of trees which, of course, took out most of the lower level power grid. But most everything is back to normal for us. However, we aren't closed in by mountains with a little creek or river to run off all the rain water. That seems to have been the biggest problem in WNC and Tenn. A lot of towns are built alongside some river that normally meanders through the town and flanked by mountain walls within a mile or so of said river. When millions upon millions of gallons of water that comes down on those mountains trickles down the mountain side to the little meandering river... well, it isn't so little or meandering for several hours.

So, flood waters rise up 10-15 -20 feet and they are very, very powerful in their rush to the sea. The majority of the damage in the most severely affected areas was the result of flood waters more than wind.
