Hello, Great to be here!

Hi Everyone,

The last forum I posted on, I did so with my actual name (which had it's benefits) but realized that maybe... that's not the greatest idea as not everyone who may be watching is trustworthy. However you can call me Servant of Jesus or "D".. first initial in my name. :)

I'm a young lad, 25 years of age and I have been a Christian for about 2 years, in fact 2 years THIS MONTH.. Praise God!

I have had an interesting and indeed somewhat unique journey in regards to faith and my search for the truth. I grew up in a Mormon family and was a devout Mormon being the president of my respective quorum from a young age and had every intention of going on a 2 year mission.

However, when it came time to go on my mission I was a bit more logical in my thinking and I decided that I would search out whether or not it was true. Obviously I discovered shockingly that it was not and became quite bitter and turned to atheism.

While I was in college I was quite a staunch atheist, if any arguments about religion or God were brought up I would arrogantly dismiss them and believed that faith in a supreme being like God to be childish.

Through a LONG set of circumstances I found myself one day at the end of my ropes in a coffee shop reading the Epistle to the Romans and it was in that moment that the power of the gospel hit me and God saved me in that coffee shop and set me on fire for his Word. I read the rest of the NT in that one sitting.

My first systematic theology that I read was by Wayne Grudem and quickly found that I was what others referred to as Reformed or a Calvinist, my love for the Word propelled my desire to learn and Reformed teachers provided this outlet. I became very equipped for apologetics and was regularly engaging in defending Reformation theology until God humbled me quite a bit (I'm not claiming to be humble, he just HUMBLED me haha) and made me to see Scripture with new eyes.

This new way of reading Scripture to see it in light of the historical setting of the first century, and understand that it was God's Word to THEM first, before me. Lead me to come to very different conclusions about the purpose and meaning of texts like Romans 9 and Ephesians 1.

I still am a devout follower of Christ who serves in college ministry and has a distaste for labels and theological distinctions, you might come to disagree with me on some things while we are here, and that's fine. Let's do our best however to correct each other with all gentleness (I can improve much here, so rebuke me if need be).

I will do my best to be honest and open, and go above and beyond to demonstrate the reasons why I believe what I believe because hey... I might be wrong, and if I don't subject my work to scrutiny that may never be demonstrated.

Blessings to you all in Christ,
"D" or Servant of Jesus

I enjoyed you testimony "D", and I'm in anticipation of more to come with your growth in Christ. If we allow Him to, there remains an ongoing work manifest in our lives as God conforms us into the image of Christ. Blessings in Christ Jesus. :wave

In light of everything you said in your OP about your name, you might want to explain your new identity. :lol
