Hi Christian Forum,
I was brought up by a Hindu family, and will remain officially Hindu. I hope not to convert into Christianity whilst being a member of this forum, since it can become alienating to my Hindu family and community - and I wish to preserve my heritage as a Hindu whilst being open minded and integrating values for my own benefit, external to Hinduism - such as Christianity, Jainism and Buddhism. However, the reason for joining this forum is that I have had experiences and values that quite resonate with that of Christianity, each time I learn about Christianity from the Bible, what people say and other texts.
Even before learning about Christianity in its essence, at the age of sixteen years, I had become emotionally and sort of spiritually conscious, with a worldview - that there is so much ongoing poverty, starvation and injustice affecting the humankind, especially in non-developed countries like Africa. So, I decided to pray to God (as a non-Christian, God was my generic notion of something divine, other than Jesus Christ) that I should suffer as much as the most suffering in the history - so that with endurance later in life, I could inspire the humankind, especially the victims of injustice through my example. This kind of example of modesty, humility and self-imposed hardship/suffering is something that is similar to Christian values. Isn't it?
Similarly, I also became conscious and regretful about my past misdemeanours (not a crime but wrongful acts such as ignoring the elders' orders and squatting ants and flies that came in my way) that I prayed, self-imposing with the idea of suffering later in life - as a way of rectifying myself. Each time I self-impose myself with this idea of punishment from the God, I feel invigorated and purified in the subtlest sense. Isn't that also similar to the goals of redemption in Christianity?
I hope that I find like minded people who share similar experiences and values, and so discuss in the light of spirituality and righteousness!
Cheers!
