Hey,
I'm Reg and live in Mississippi, I was raised a southern Baptist and gave my life to Christ at the age of 13, then rededicated at age 17 then basically walked away from church at the age 19-20.
I was never really a "wild child", but in college I did do my fair share of drinking and general hell raising. I got married at the age of 21 and had my daughter before my 21st birthday. My wife and I went through a time of basically not believing in church and having serious doubts about the bible being accurate.
After many talks between ourselves and folks a lot smarter than us we have come to the conclusion that our problem lie within our old churches and not the fundamental teachings of the church as a whole. We have been attending church again regular for over two months now and our about to take the plunge and become
involved members of another Baptist church.
My question now is, even though we like the church, if the Baptist church is even a good fit for us. The church we have been attending is a lot more laid back then a traditional southern Baptist church but some of our beliefs will still clash I'm afraid. I would like to list the beliefs I'm worried about and gather some more thoughts.
1. Due to my personal walk I do not believe in "once saved always saved"
2. I do not believe that drinking in moderation is a sin.
3.Due to a family member trying more than once to commit suicide due to being gay I do not feel that being gay is a choice.
4. I do not gamble but I feel that gambling in moderation is not a sin.
5. I feel that the souther Baptist church is mostly a segregated environment.
The church we are attending has not addressed these issues yet but are these things that are commonly looked down upon throughout all denominations? Excuse my ignorance but I attended the same church from birth until the age of 19-20.
