How Do We Measure The Love Of God?

How would you measure the Love of God? To what on this earth can it be compared to? It is said, and written, that God is love and the God of creation. So it seems to me that God's love would be evident in all that He has created. Perhaps it could be said that all is created by Love and it's very fabric of existence is indeed, love.

The greatest commandment for us is to Love God with all of our heart, soul and strength, (Deuteronomy 6:4-7), all of our heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37-40), (Mark 12:30-31), (Luke 10:27), so to what measure do we look to, to set our goal upon this and attain success in obeying it?

Can love be compared to light and the absence of love to darkness? To a fruitful marriage which bears the fruit of new life? The sun and stars in the sky above us? An iceberg? It absolutely must be evident in His creation for it is written that all will be without excuse!

The book 'Guess how much I love you?' answers this one.

In it a baby hare wants to show how much he loves his mother and comes up with various distances. To the end of the field, to the distant hills etc finally seeing the moon he says 'I love you as far as the moon.'
As he falls asleep his mother answers ' And I love you as far as the moon and back!'

Little hare we cannot compete with Gods Love for us.
It always goes further, higher, deeper wider and does far more than we can ever imagine.

Like little hare all we have to do is love.
Everything has been done by Jesus.

The way i measure the Love of God, personally.... is to consider the amount of Love He has already shown for me, before i was even born.
And how much is that?
"For God so loved ME, that He gave His only begotten Son".

That's quite a bit of love.
God is Love.

Measurement?
Infinity and beyond

He is Our Heavenly Father.
How much do you love your kids?
Sure you would do anything for your kids, unless it is harmful to them.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

Now that's interesting.

I do love my kids a lot. I would die for them. But a kids love for the parent... is that a proper measurement? While kids (mostly at least) love their parents, it is probably not as strong a love (or measurement scale) as of which we speak...(maybe?)...because kids leave their parents and cling to their wife, which is probably a stronger love than they had for the parent. And I'm not sure how many kids would die for their parent, yet the kids would expect the parent(s) to fight to the death for them...Does that make sense?

That the Lord God actually laid down His life and died for us...continues to astound me every time I think about it. And also, while we were still sinners and not walking with Him! Wow. And we are called to be like Him. To take on His character, heart and mind. Not that we could, but we're supposed to try. And thereby draw closer and slowly become sanctified and walk in all manner of humblness and love towards all, even to prayiong for our enemies who wrong us.

Scripture says that all of creation praises the Lord. I presume this means the animals do?

Before I was walking with the Lord, I could not see evidence of God in the world. Now that I am walking with the Lord, I see God's fingerprints everywhere. Step outside, and...see those trees and mountains? See the sun and planets in the sky? God's fingerprints. Without a doubt.

Stars all over the heavens, giving their light to us at night in the darkness...what does that mean? Some say the lights in the heavens are symbolic of the Patriarchs, the righteous of God...(I don't know).

But then the dawn comes...and a singular light (the sun) which is so bright that it is more light than all the stars combined and then we can not see the stars anymore because of this light...

This is kind of sorta like symbolic of Jesus and all His people maybe? We are told in Isaiah to Arise and Shine. Let you light so shine before the world...right? Wit Jesus being the largest, singular light which is brighter than all...

and though we all have some capacity to love, and most do to an extent...it is not the pure and bright love that is our Lord.

Or do I take these thoughts too far? lol

You and I do think a like as I was going to say infinity so I will add that there is no instrument in the world that can measure that much love. Just think how beautiful this world would be if everyone loved to infinity and beyond.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

The measure of how we love God is how we love His children.

We measure love by meter and yard, by the experience of love in others and ourselves we come to an assumption of how caring and loving others are and how caring we are. But when I try to measure God's love. There is no tape measurer long enough. It baffles me sometimes the great lengths of God's love when we see extraordinary examples of it.

On the other side of the coin is God's fireceness. There is no measure on God and what he can do. What good news is that He loves us, and that His first choice is to redeem us and rescue us.

Sorry, I took so long to respond, I was on vacation.
True, especially kids now days, some kill their parents, for their money.
I was speaking on the terms of God, being our Father, we are His children, though some disappoint Him, He still laid down His life for them.
Now, the OP was the measurement of God's love, not the love of His children.
There is a time coming, that we may have to lay down our life for His name SAKE, will we past the test?
Even though we should lay down our life daily, us being Christians, it is He that dwells in us. No longer our will, but God's will.
