"And he who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8
Satan is the enemy of God, man and all righteousness. Satan accuses God to man as he did in the case of Eve, and accuses man to God as he did in the case of Job. He is a fallen angel. Jesus said, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." (Luke 10:18)
Satan tempts humanity in many ways. Every temptation to do evil, to serve the flesh, and to love the world comes from Satan. We have many temptations and distractions. The world today is full of distractions. We have tv, the internet, smart phones, sports, politics, and many other things to distract us from Jesus.
Satan also appears as an angel of light, using scriptures wrongly to mislead people. Satan does not object to people having a false righteousness as long as they are serving him. Jesus described the religious leaders of his time as being sons of Satan.
In our own strength we are no match for Satan. God has made every provision for us to resist the devil's temptations through Christ and His Word. We need to study the Bible, for Satan cannot withstand the Word of God. We need to watch and pray, and we trust in Christ's atoning blood and His intercession for us. He is able to the uttermost. (Hebrews 7:25)
