Growth How do you overcome the devil’s temptations?

Mike that would be my fault. I told Cturtle to quote just what she was refering to because things get so twisted in here by others.... ; ) I thought I was making it easier.....sorry !
Jim

Well, thats good advice, I don't care she thought I meant believing God will do nobody any good. I get misquoted all the time, and misunderstood. Even telling the devil to get someone, I have a couple of unlearned folks just puzzled about that, even though it's in Scripture a few times. I just spoke by the Holy Spirit, I had no idea the my grandpa's brother was going to die the day before he went to court to take away what belonged to my grandma. God knows the heart though, and Satan was given permission by me to have his full place. I really don't fully understand how that works, but by the unction of the Holy Spirit only.

No big deal though about Cturtle. She read it the way she was wanting to read it.

Just as you read my statement about the way you wanted to read it.

The difference is that you did not expect that out of me, she did and never gave thought.

I know it's God in you, but we also have a responsibility to respond to God in us.

No, it's not you............... I was responding to "YOUR" post. Cturtle quoted me from my response to you.

Cturtle half quoted me:

then she said......

This quote above is what i am talking about. You preach faith, but your own words say you don't believe that God is able to save the one who obey's God.

So, she believes based on what I said to you that even if Women believe and Obey God, they can still die.

I never said that, believe that, nor meant that. I was not even talking about the women believing God.

The people who mistreat the women who is God's child. I have seen them Die, moved, or they run off.

When my Grandpa died, He left my Grandma a lot of money. One of my Grandpa's brothers tried through the courts to get half of it.

I prayed with Grandma and told Satan to go get this boy if He will not listen to the Holy Spirit. It was not His money, and grandpa never meant for him to get any money.

It was a day before he was to go to court to contest his rights to at least half the money. He died suddenly and unexpected of heart failure.

I have many more stories like this.

so what I meant, God is faithful to protect his own, and make a way out.

Brother Mike,
Like I said I was in the middle of her reply and it seems she mistook something you said either in a quote of yours or you playing the twisted responce to something dumb some one else said, With that said Brother it done and it's finished. Time to move on, know what I am refering too ? ; ) Yep I thought you would.
Love forgiveness and blessings.........That us
Jim

I have not killed anyone, nor healed anyone. Although it was talked about a long time in my family about what I prayed and what happened. My Grandma was not raised to understand her Authority in Christ. She was raised in unbelief under the Methodist and Nazarene church so It made a pretty big impact on her and the rest of the family.

This really should not surprise anyone, I am very concerned about what they teach ya all at church. Paul turned over 3 to the devil, despite the devil was doing his best to kill Paul. You really should know how this works, pay attention more in Sunday School.

This is true, but Jesus is far better off then the enemy. Jesus did have it rough at times, no question about that.
You're right about people never learning the power that belongs to the Christian, but I see the major reason for their lack of knowledge as being their own fault. You mention they should pay attention Sunday School and I say fat chance of that happening. Most of the membership the LORD's Church has never been seated in a class, not even a New Member's Class.

My last Class was the Grumpy Old Men's Class and I was sought to teach the class by two of the members. One was an old time Street Preacher and the other an Ordained Deacon. I left the class where I was seated under one of the best Bible, verse by verse, teachers I have ever known and took the class of twelve men plus me.

By the third month of teaching Matthew and applying the lessons to our life, ten men left the class and moved to another Church and took seats under a former teacher of mine I will never be seated under again except he repent. The lead man of this group informed me that they could never live the way I was teaching because they were not as holy as I was.

If you ever want to cut the heart out of a sincere teacher, tell them you can never live like them because they see themselves as holier than you. People hear the lessons but they have no heart for attempting to live the Word and without applying the lessons they manage to get in Worship Service, Sunday School will remain, just one more drag on their week ends.

The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
(Mar 4:14-15)

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
(Jas 1:23-24)

That is really sad to hear Brother. It reminds me of the rich young ruler whom Jesus loved. Go sell all you have and give to the poor, then follow me. He could have been Judas replacement.

Instead, he walked away. He did not want to sell all his things, it was to hard for him.

Had he stuck around, He would have also heard Jesus say that no man has left all for the Gospel sake and not received 100 Fold now in this time. Houses, lands, brothers.............

The men in your group also found the scripture to hard to be do'ers of the Word. They could have been like you, could have gotten a greater reward, like the rich young ruler.

In my Word of Faith group, all the folks love to grab all the DVD's and CD's of all their favorite Word of Faith teachers. They travel all over to attend all the big conferences. They associate themselves as the "FAITH" bunch.

I tell you the truth, when things go really bad, you would be hard pressed to find one that has faith and trust in God. They more like to be part of the club, than getting the Word to change.

When we hear the Word, we ought to be thinking how that is going to change the way I am thinking and living. change should be constant to be more in line with the Word.

Thank you for sharing that, though sad.

I know you and I are as different in the application of our faith as I am different from the Word Of Faith Missionary I am such good friends with in Guatemala but just as I do for him because he has believed, he and you are my brothers because each of, in his way, seeks to live the walk we have been given be Holy Spirit that indwells us.

I, an ordinary Baptist, have laid on hands and prayed for healing and have witnessed God's work. One lady had a tumor the size of a good Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit on Sunday Morning, (the old fox grins) she WAS a Catholic and just came for someone to anoint her and for the prayer, but after the Operation she was fussed at by the Doctor.

The surgeon sat with her until she recovered and asked her if she had sought prayer for the cancer. When she replied to the positive he had a fit. He told her that had she come in to his office the day before and told him, he would have xrayed her and she would have one less scar and operation bill.

Folks are just so rooted in science and this world they cannot see the truth. Oh, by the way, Tina, Spanish, is a Baptist now and consumes the Word, daily. God is the blessing we refuse... Sad!

That's pretty Awesome. I am not sure WOF is a different application of Faith than Baptist have. Once something is revealed by God to someone they become pretty convinced it's true despite being Baptist or WOF.

It's about giving the Holy Spirit first place over a doctrine we might have. Leaning not to our own understanding, but acknowledging God. Doctrines try to give us understanding and a foundation to understand other things. If the Doctrine is off, and we are not willing to consider something different, we miss out on all God would like to do through us, and for us.

The Baptist down the street as I have said before. Got fed up with all the sick folk in His church. His attendance was not great, It grieved him that people were dying that should not be and His Doctrine was that God only sometimes Heal's people.

He went to God and begged God to heal more people. His heart was right, His Doctrine kept him from seeing things. Because he was at a place where His heart was ready to get answer, the Lord spoke to him. "I already told you what to do, and it's without fail in the book of James."

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
(Jas 5:14-15)

The Lord Shall, was different than His Doctrine of God sometimes heals and sometimes does not heal. He said he saw it, it like jumped out at him. He also noticed that Faith was required, before he was against people being told they could not be healed because of faith or lack of faith.

So, he went searching on the internet for what type of Oil was needed, but concluded that it did not matter finally. He was now convinced and put this scripture into practice after every service.

Now in my opinion He needs a new Church. 6 years later his parking lot is maxed out, they have to park up and down the street just for a place to park. Some amazing Testimonies about healing come from his church now. He is a super nice guy to talk to and I like when He tells the story one How showed him what to do.

If people will have the heart to want to seek, then they will find. Most protect their doctrine and never seek, and never find.

so It is not really WOF, or Baptist. it's about having a ear to hear, and desire to want to seek and change. Any Doctrine can trap a man into the land of nothing new from the Lord.

Amen and if could give faith away, I would but that gift is from God and people everywhere seem determined to misapply their faith.

Please give me the scripture where Jesus said this. Thanks.

Please give me the scripture where Jesus said this. Thanks.

Must I also fetch your scriptures? Noah said about the Water.

I'll just break down the Chapter. Mark chapter 10

Jesus is teaching about Receiving the Kingdom of God as a little child. (To rule with God, his way) Mark 10:14-16

someone in the crowed heard him and ran to him asking how to inherit Eternal life. (Rich young ruler)
Jesus not changing the Subject He was talking about (Kingdom of God) said........... Go sell all you have, that will place all you have as treasure in Heaven, then come and follow me.

Remember Matt 6............
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
(Mat 6:18-20)

Paul mentions the same thing.

For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
(Php 4:16-17)

Material things are best sown into the things of God for our account in Heaven which is always there and thieves can't touch it. Why I don't mind sowing rent money or bill money because I actually don't loose that money, it's still there and God pays better interest than any bank can pay.

The rich young ruler is sad because he believes He has to give up all his wealth to follow Jesus, and walks away. Mark 10:22
Remember King Asa paid his way out of a bad situation without asking God, that did not make God very happy.

Jesus then says how hard it is for rich folks to enter the Kingdom of God. They trust in their own wealth and ability and not God's ability.

And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
(Mar 10:24-26)

The Disciples were still fixated on the Rich Young rulers question...... How do I inherit eternal life. Your suppose to give all you have is what they heard. Jesus was not talking about that though.

Then Jesus says something that seemed completely off the wall. Peter stops him in mid sentence.

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
(Mar 10:27-28)

Jesus is still talking about what Jesus wants to talk about. He was often like this. They should have listened then asked question.

Jesus clears up what He was saying, and answers their questions about eternal life.

And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
(Mar 10:29-30)

Summary:

Jesus said, store your treasure in Heaven, trust in God, not in your own wealth and ability. You will recive 100 fold back now in this time for all you have put into the Kingdom of God. Don't trust your money with man, or man's system. Man can't give back 100 fold or keep your money safe. With man that is impossible, but with God all things are possible, even 100 fold back in lands, and houses.

Had the Rich young ruler stayed, He would have not missed out on all the awesome things Jesus talked about.

Michael, I just asked for the scripture, not an expose, but thank you for your exceeding effort. It is appreciated.
Here is my understanding of verse 30 in brackets. Not disagreeing with all that you said, just adding something, maybe.
Mar 10:29 And Jesus answering said, `Verily I say to you, there is no one who left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for my sake, and for the good news',
Mar 10:30 who may not receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses [household, family, household of God], and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and fields [land, country], with persecutions, and in the age that is coming, life age-during;
Mar 10:31 and many first shall be last, and the last first.'

It's not just because from the definitions of those Greek words but because I remember what Abraham looked for through faith. God is asking Abram to do the same thing Jesus asks of this rich man.
Gen 12:1 And Jehovah saith unto Abram, `Go for thyself, from thy land, and from thy kindred, and from the house of thy father, unto the land which I shew thee.
Gen 12:2 And I make thee become a great nation, and bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.

Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, being called, did obey, to go forth to the place that he was about to receive for an inheritance, and he went forth, not knowing whither he doth go;
Heb 11:9 by faith he did sojourn in the land of the promise as a strange country, in tabernacles having dwelt with Isaac and Jacob, fellow-heirs of the same promise,
Heb 11:10 for he was looking for the city having the foundations, whose artificer and constructor is God.

He obeyed leaving all behind, by faith, Abraham was looking/accepting/awaiting the Kingdom of God.

And He said to Abram,
Gen 12:3 And I bless those blessing thee, and him who is disesteeming thee I curse, and blessed in thee have been all families of the ground.'
And He said to Peter,

Mat 16:18 `And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;

Pretty awesome Deborah. I am sure there is more to Mark 10 than what we see. However, anyone wondering about Mark 10, they have a pretty good foundation with many connecting scriptures to follow.

""""Resist the devil and he will flee from you"""

now, what does that mean?
>When temptation comes, ignore it.
Learn how to not focus on your wrong desires.
Temptation becomes an issue when you dont.<

""""Resist the devil and he will flee from you"""

Temptation is only a little piece of this. How about persecution and battle of the mind and fear and doubt to just say a few. Ignoring these will get you no where. Some times when you simply just ignore things they do not go away. There is more depth to this verse.
Blessings

How do you overcome the devil’s temptations?
By not investing into the devil's suggestions.
Evil is fear-based, not love-based. Evil cannot feed of love, but only of fear. Fear feeds of fear.
Most of our fears are unfounded, and they are stories about our investment into what is not true.
Faith to face our untrue fears
nullifies them, and is replaced by the Truth.
