How do YOU talk to atheists?

If they are sincere I have no problem sharing my testimoney with them or answering any questions they may have. Wanting to "debate my faith" is something I won't do with them.
Do not be deceived: "Bad company ruins good morals." 1 Corinthians 15:33

I see your OP has drawn forth the Hounds of War. This is the proof that very, very few both read the scriptures and are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. As an Atheist, in my youth, I learned the art of re-framing the question to suit my requirements. This art needs teaching in the Evangelical movement.

Where as an Atheist I would send the Christian of the mid to early late 20th Century Crawfishing away from me. I would then turn all matters into the scientific realm and today, I'm more stubborn about the Spiritual Realm than I ever was about the Natural realm. If Christians will stop allowing the Atheist to drive the conversation they will not feel whipped and seek to find compensation by stating the obvious and obviously disbelieved by the recipient.

You have a great string to provoke thoughtful exchange here, God bless! And remember folks, it's about Faith. Faith is a gift from God and most refuse all gifts from God.

There strong warnings from God words about mixing good with evil. The battle is not ours...it's the Lord's only!

Well, if you want me to lie, you would be encouraging me to sin.

Not the point. Atheists are people like we are. They don't deserve to be treated with contempt and were not taught to treat them with contempt

Hello ThoughtsOfAChristainMan and welcome to the forum. Before you leap to the conclusion that I am an atheist, I said Christian: 'No' when I signed up to the forum simply because I do not agree with the SoF. I am an ex-Catholic, now on the fringes of Christianity.

There are some good ideas above but the one which seems to me to be missing is, for goodness sake don't get into a discussion in which you are trying to provide 'proof' of God or Creation etc. You cannot prove it, so don't try. Accept that it is a matter of 'faith' and you will get far more respect than by trying to provide some claimed 'proof' which is, in reality, nothing remotely like 'proof'.

....Most atheists "I believe what I believe because I believe it"
I could not disagree more. All atheists that I have met are atheists on the basis of 'logic and reason'. They consider that they have arrived at a reasoned conclusion and definitely NOT on a faith or 'belief' basis.

....And that is where I will use creation science....
Before you get too confident in creation science you need to spend a bit of time in the science section of this forum. EVERYtime someone thinks that they have proof of creation or proof that evolution is not true they get thoroughly slaughtered by real scientists. By 'real scientists' I mean Christians on this forum who are real scientists not faux scientists who follow a method far removed from the rigor of real science.

If you try to convince an atheist, who knows even a moderate amount about evolution, that creation is proven or provable then you WILL end up looking foolish in his/her eyes. You will simply contribute to his/her 'belief' that all theists are deluded.

I believe in the bible for this reason
Personal conviction and experience.
Science shows proof of creation.
Science written in the bible is just now being discovered (YHVH rolled out the heavens etc.)
Biblical Archeology (Sodom and Goromorah was found Egyptian chariots in the red sea etc.) .......
Again, you need to be very careful if introducing archaeology as 'proof' of anything. It may indeed be 'evidence' of historical events recorded in The Bible but it may be nothing of the kind. That 'leap of faith' is not something you will get an atheist to make. If you introduce archaeology, the atheist is likely to point out that there is no archaeological evidence that Nazareth even existed in 0-50 AD. He/she may also be aware that its original location was and is unknown (The Nazareth we know now was only built after the Pope bought that land and that land is probably in the wrong place).

Better to show him/her the peace, contentment, caring and love that comes from faith in God. There is more to life than we can know by 'logic and reason' and the best service you can do is to get an atheist to acknowledge that and thereby open the door just a crack.

Very true, I just had to blow off some steam. If you can do this and not fall for the devil's tricks, you are a humble person; something I'm striving for in the end. I'm learning from farouk, he might laugh at me though, ha. ;)

A REAL enemy of the Lord would be called a Satanist or Luciferan. An atheist is just someone who believes in science, rather than reasoning with the impossible. It is also evil, to treat them so cold like that. God is a forgiving and a just God. There is no need to say such things about our lost brothers and sisters.

Most atheists who hang out extensively online want an argument. They expect Christians to debate them on the existence of God. Unfortunately, far too many Christians are willing to accommodate them, and by that, I mean they, too want an argument. No one ever argued anyone into heaven. In fact, no one ever did anything to get anyone else into heaven. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. I suggest we consult Him when we feel the urge to defend the Kingdom. Because the reality is, the Kingdom doesn't need our defense. God can take care of that Himself.

If someone is going to get into a discussion with an atheist, the most important thing for the unbeliever to see is Christ. Show Him through kind, thoughtful, concerned words. Why do most atheists despise Christianity? Because all they know about it are the bad displays of anger, haughtiness and pride by Christians who have been willing to join an argument instead of being willing to make a good gospel presentation. To do the latter, one has to first show that his/her statements are valid. How? By acting like the words you speak.

Agreed.

This is the whole point of this thread! To ask or tell others that we should speak respectfully to them. Well said!

Exactly! Just treat them with respect and how you would like to be treated

I think that most Christians forget that God saves, not us.

Also, Christ only had 12 disciples, and even at that, all of the 12 forsook him in the end. How is that for the world's best debator?

Is there a formula? Nope, just like there is not a formula for God. All we can then do it try to connect to him and let him direct us.
