I have only been born again for 8 years now. I was not in church at all up until that point. This last 8 years has been an incredible learning curve to say the least. I struggle to keep myself in line sometimes. Below is some things God showed me to do that works:

1. I pray a prayer of thanks before getting out of bed every morning.

2. I carry a "car bible" in the car with me. I keep it on the seat beside me. When something happens, such as being tailgated, someone pulls out in front of me or cuts me off, maybe I'm just stressed because I'm in traffic or running late. whatever, I reach over and put my hand on the bible, or I place it in my lap. It keeps me mindful that God is riding with me.

3. I pray before every workout. I thank God for my health and strength and I dedicate my health and strength to his use.

4. I read a chapter in the bible everyday. It does not matter what book or what chapter, I just read one.

5. Be nice! I'm quiet by nature and I don't say much or look at too many people when I'm out, but when I do, I try to be nice. And if I can help someone, I will.

6. Pray before I go to bed.

I need to do these things. Without them, I would slip backward.

Hi Dave! for my wife and me, daily prayer and Bible reading are really the basic necessities of our lives. Interesting you have a Bible that you carry in the car; of course, it was inspired for reading rather than as an icon! :) but I know what you mean by reminding yourself of it. (Similarly I guess some Christians get a faith related tattoo both to remind themselves of what they believe and also as a testimony to others.)

Blessings.

Well, I have a bible that I read and carry to church. The "car bible" is a powerful tool to ward off the enemy. Yea, I could rebuke him just as easy, and I do. But remember, the bible is the "Sword" of the spirit. A weapon! To be used against the enemy. When you pray something off with a bible in your hand, the enemy knows you mean business! Just my take on it.

Dave: Yes, it's the Sword of the Spirit, indeed! the Ephesians 6 passage about the whole armor of God is really practical passage about spiritual warfare. There was a guy called William Gurnall that wrote a book all about Ephesians 6; it's called 'The Christian in Complete Armour', and it is partly about the sword of the Spirit, and also the breastplate of righteousness, etc.

Blessings.

PS: You're right that having a Bible close by is a reminder to oneself. Like for example also some folk like a Bible verse ref. inked on their wrist, say, so that they don't forget it.

We read and talked about Ephesians 6 last week in small group. Good stuff.

Dave H: Yes, the short, Ephesian epistle is one of the most searching books of the New Testament. Blessings.
