How Should A Christian Vote?

Its not like God can't handle it. He's probably the most used and abused being in the history of all mankind. And people cry there a victim. They got nothing on God.
But God's tool box is filled with people, people like me and people like you and you are squirming just as I did when He called me. Don't be like me and suffer twenty or more years of persuasion, it can be very discomforting.

I think the GOP uses and abuses the Christian vote.

And I think you are 100% correct! "Christianity" has simply become a code word for a right-wing political agenda. By cloaking that political agenda in "Christianity," the right-wing attracts a segment of voters, many of them sincere Christians, who fall for the cynical ploy. (This is not to say the entire right-wing political agenda is inconsistent with Christianity because it obviously is not. But the political and moral arguments can be made without the phony trappings of "Christianity.")

Samuel Johnson famously said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." The Runner Amendment is, "Phony patriotism with a veneer of phony Christianity is the last refuge of the extreme right."

Unless you're in the 1%, it's probably a good idea to vote Democrat.

I have no problem with how anyone votes, as long as he does so on the basis of his convictions and what he thinks is best for the country. I think it is a mistake to try to base a vote on an estimate as to which candidate "God prefers" or which candidate is "most Christian." The candidate who is elected will be the one who fits God's plan regardless of who turns out to vote. Barring a last-minute miracle that introduces an entirely new and unexpected candidate, if we are left with a choice between The Donald and The Hillary I'm thinking God's plan must be "Kiss your country good-bye."

I feel this so much.

I don't vote. Have never voted because I don't put my trust and faith in man. All I have ever seen is broken promises and corporate gain.

What does the bible say about this? Also is it a sin for a Christian to vote for a candidate that supports same sex marriage and abortion?

I do think trying to vote based on how well the candidate upholds our values is a fair assessment. And that includes whether they support abortion and same sex marriage. But I think there is more too. The letter of Titus shares some really good insight for choosing elders, and in my opinion that also speaks well about choosing leaders in general. It then speaks about things we should do, which in tune I think should also be expectations for those we would want to elect. It's not a long book. Only three chapters long, so I can recommend it all. But expecially the first chapter verses 5-9 that deal with choosing an elder. There is also Jesus's teaching to the apstoles when they argued among themselves who would be the greatest of them. Mathew 20:24-28 and Luke 22:24-30 give account to this lesson from Jesus. I'll quote Titus 1:5-9 and Luke 22:24-30 below for easy reference.

Titus 1:5-9

5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders in every town, as I directed you.6 An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.7 Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.8 Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Luke 22:24-30
24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials.29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Honestly based on who upholds what is right as well as the lessons from Paul and Jesus on this matter, I don't think either Hillery or Donald measure up, so if a person wishes to vote for either it has to be based on which isn't the worst between them. When voting gets closer I think I'll just look up who's going to be on the ballet and do a little looking into some of them see if there's anyone worth putting my vote towards. That's just me though,
