How was your first year in the "real" world?

Cool. So you were a roadie. What's your fave music to listen to know?
Roadie 😮 ! There was a reason for me to be at the soundboard , I mixed the sound and also ran the stage lights . Equal member of the band . Sadly we were our own roadies 😜 .

I listen to pop and rock music from the 50's to the early 80's . Favorite would be Phil Keaggy fingerstyle guitarist . Some of the CCM music I like . I like to hear these brothers pick together but when they talk they have a funny accent .

Ok sorry. I think in Australia , band members might have higher status. But depends how good the band is.
Also we can underestimate the skill required to work at the soundboard. I know nothing about it.

Well I was equal in pay because of the roadie work involved and I owned some of the sound system and paid an equal payment on the lights and the rest of the PA system that we owed money on . Oh yeah my van was our main vehicle too , pulled a 16 foot uhaul trailer many a mile . No offense taken my friend :) .

If a band is working for a record label they can really get in a bad deal . One band got on with a label and they released a record . The label said you need to concert tour to support record sales so they toured for six months . The label covered ALL the bands expenses on the road . After the tour the band asked for their pay . The label took out for the bands studio time and ALL their tour expenses out and the band ended up owing the record label money . :rocking
I remember that back in the 60's (and 50's but that was before my memory time!) many bands ended up poor, even those that sold millions of records.

It's a good thing they got smart.

And now with YouTube and the internet, record sales can no longer be counted on for $$.
The smart ones learned how to make use of YouTube.
I remember when U2 gave away an album for free (The Innocence Album?)...they were criticized...
but what did they really give away?
Nothing.
