I am not moved.....

W

WMD

Guest
I touched on this a bit in my blog tonight....

I am not moved by the Holy Spirit... It seems that a lot of people I talk to has had some tremendous experience with the Holy Ghost that has brought them closer to God... I don't have that... he is not stirring inside of my soul...

This does not cause any un-belief, but it feels as if I am missing something. There is something just out of reach that I know I need to get a hold of but I can not seem to catch it....

Thanks for listening....

You have just asked one of the most simple or complicated questions one can ask. There are three basic views to what your asking. I will try and keep it simple, but will give you a little tiny bit of theology.. There have been books the sizes of Bibles written on the works of the Holy Spirit.

First. When A person beomes a Christian,at that moment the Holy Spirit enters that person. Some people they are filled to the brim, but it is rare. Another gift or gifts aside from the Holy Spirit and Eternal life that one recieves are spiritual Gifts. Speaking in tongues is not evidence of being filled with the Holy spirit. Not all do and most never recieve that Gift. I my self do not have that gift and I have been filled with the Holy Spirit.

One view and the bible does teach is a second work of Grace. This is taught by Wesly or Armenianism and basically what it means is that at 1 time and 1 time only you will be filled to capacity with the Holy Spirit and from that moment on your walk will have ups and downs, peaks and valleys as is the Christian walk.

Another view is that a person is never trully filled with the Holy Spirit but instead is gradually filled with its peaks and valleys and this is what Calvin taught. That one becomes filled through the justification process which is the rest of your natural life. This view also Holds that nobody is trully saved until they are dead.At that point ones becomes perfect.

Both those views are taught by the bible and there is truth in both those doctrines.

As for me. This is what I believe and The bible teaches this as well. Infact its practiced through the book of ACTS.

Have a spirit filled believer or believers lay hands and pray for you, anoint you with oil, and ask the Holy spirit to fill you. This is what was done to me and what i Have done for others. Now this also is not a one time deal. Just like a car runs out of fuel, so do we. In order to be constantly being filled with the Holy Spirit ( The bible teaches to be, being filled) One must continue to follow after God, read his Bible, Pray, Worship, fellowship and partake in communion.. This is by no means a complete list but just a partial list.

If you have not been water baptized, then I would do that and while your getting dunked simply Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you.

Read Romans Chapter 4 through Romans Chapter 8 and pray while you read and study those scriptures on Justification. Ask the Holy spirit to inetrpret these. Your life will for ever be changed.

If you have any questions on Romans please ask. There are many good teachers on this forum who can help you with this.
You can ask Solo, Vic, Atonement, Golfjack, Lewis and there are more but these are the ones who come to mind right of the bat. These are people who I know have thier theology right. I say this because there are many who don't.

Blessings,
Jg

You know I should have posted all the bible verses and I will look them all up and post them for you. What I wrote I wrote out of memory as I tend to do with almost everything.

So, you're stoic. No big whoop. You might be missing a little elation. There are whole churches were practically no one raises their hands. In fact, this is the norm.

So what is being filled with the Holy Spirit suppose to be like? Is it just a feeling of a presense? Is it suppose to be a feeling that you are being guided in your actions? Is it a feeling that gives you insights into God and what he wants?

Great site and I really liked your testimony. We've got a lot in common.

When I am in church, the music can get me moving, but I don't have the urge to raise my hands or jump up and down. I have never had a life changing experience and the Holy Spirit has never interacted with me or stirred within my soul.

Again, I can relate to a portion to what you have written. I used to go to a church were they had the live band and people would raise their hands and such... I sometimes felt like I was odd man out because I was just not into, or should I say, "I wasn't moved by the sprit" to raise my hands and then one day I realized that I didn't need to raise my hands. Worship comes from your heart. Sure, it can be expressed in the lifting of your hands, but if you don't, it doesn't invalidate what's in your heart.

As far as that hole you talked about, I felt that too. What filled that hole for me was when I read Acts 2:30ish-47 among a few other scriptures and then I acted upon that calling and I was baptized, I knew that I was a member of the community of God's children. What will fill that hole for you? One day your answer will come.

Sometimes we need to slow down and stop comparing ourselves to those around us. I read part of your blog and I'd say that the Holy Spirit is driving you to something big. If I can ask, what portion of religion interests you? I'm not familiar with the authors that you've read. Maybe I could suggest some books?

It's not something that I could discribe Quath. I suppose it's different for each person as we each have different needs. YHWH is the great I AM, and he knows what each needs and when he needs it.

It ususally starts, Scott, by believing...

WMD,
In a word ~~ask.

Luk 11:13 ..... how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Luk 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Jhn 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Jhn 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it].

Ask, ask, ask, ASK

YES, This is what I am talking about. Many Christians go through life with out ever being filled with the Holy Spirit when trully as Gabby pointed out, because we don't ask. I would also suggest that you get the elders to lay hands on you and have them pray for you as well.
Blessings, Jg

WMD.. let me ask you a question? You said and I quote

This does not cause any un-belief

How do you know that you are a Christian and going to Heaven? This is very important because you are telling me that you don't feel the Holy Spirit. But the Holy was just revealed in your own post.. One can not contradict the Spirit of God my friend..

1Cr 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

So can you say that Jesus is Lord? Can you confess before all of us here that your sins are forgiven? can you say to each of us that you put your trsut in the LORD?

if you can answer yes, then don't worry about it my friend, you have the Holy Spirit in you..

1Th 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Amen and Amen

Thanks for the long reply... I am going to think deeply on everything that you and everyone else replied with. I would like the Bible verses that you spoke of if you could look them up for me.

Well... what I am speaking of in the most simplist of forms is the passion that people have... it is as if they have a direct connection with the Holy Spirit and it just charges them to the max....

Now these people obviously are not like this every moment of the day, but they are like that alot, and all the time.

Thanks.. I appreciate you checking out the blog... I am going to try and update it a few times a week and I invite you to visit again, tell your friends too.

I try not to compare myself directly to other people, and I know that everyone will have their own unique journeys when it comes to faith, but I can't help but think that there is more.... I am not sure what you mean by "what portions of religion interest me".. I am Christian, but I do not consider myself any specific denomination. I have been attending my brothers church the past couple of weeks, I am not sure there specific denomination... I will look up the website and post it here.

As far as the books go Donald Miller is a great writer out of Portland OR. His books have been considered a little edgy for the traditional fundamentalist christian, but I have found the books particularly good. I would suggest "Searching For God Knows What" although "Blue Like Jazz" is pretty good, I am about half way through that one.

I am sure you have heard of Lee Strobel... Case For series of apologetic books are very good.

You can suggest any books that you like to read... I love feeding the mind and am always looking for a good book to read.

Thank You...

I do believe that my sins have been washed away by Jesus' blood. I believe he is the saviour, the sacrificial lamb, sent by God to pay the price for the fall of man.

I believe that because of this I am going to heaven.

Interesting thread.

WMD - May I ask, what moved you to believe this?

I have never had a dramatic spirit in me moment. When through a stage where i was very jealous of those who had, even though i knee the Spirit was in me.

Everyone's testimonys at christian events always have a dramatic wow and this bothered me-what was i missing! Then a guy at an event said, "Someone who sleeps on a car journey still knows they have made the journey when they wake up at the other end."

Now I see that maybe God won't do something huge and dramatic but it doesn't mean we can't get to a fab relationship together with time. I believe the Spirit it working in me and over time I will hear him and feel him more as i spend time with God praying, studying etc. I think its only in years to come i'm going to be able to see the journey i have made with him.
