I in my youth had a hard time with my father and due too that I rebelled against the teachings of the lord starting when I was younger. I said too my father when he told me that we had to follow the lords instructions and other things like that. I didnt understand then and I said too him that it was slavery and slavery was wrong. I have always looked at the part of the bible where it is the unforgiveable sin to say anything bad about the lord and I have feared it after learning better.

can anyone explain too me what sort of statement against the lord would be considered in this context

Whoever 1speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever 1speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in bthis age or in the ageto come.

I do not remember all of my unfortunate years but that as one of the things that I said.

Let's read the preceding passage in context ....

Matthew 12:22-28

Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Jesus healed and delivered a demon-possessed man by the Spirit of God, but the Pharisees accused Him of using some other demonic power - Beelzebul.

That is what "speaking against the Holy Spirit" means. We should be careful not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit with regards to the things of God lest we end up unforgivable.

Hi Darrelly! In the first place, your challenge wasn't against the Holy Spirit but would be considered against the Lord, but your comment to your Dad was just an opinion and not derogatory.

For someone to fall under condemnation of what Christ taught here (Mat 12:32) one would have to knowingly and willingly be speaking against the Spirit.

I found this good for understanding this passage more fully:

"But whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost", in the sense before declared, "it shall not be forgiven him: not because the Holy Ghost is greater than Christ; or for want of efficacy in the blood of Christ; or because God cannot pardon it; but because such persons wilfully, maliciously, and obstinately oppose the Spirit of God, without whom there can be no application of pardon made; and remain in hardness of heart, are given up to a reprobate mind, and die in impenitence and unbelief, and so there is no forgiveness for them. -Gill

Thank you I understand better now.
