The first and last slices are too small to do anything with! If I try to butter it I get butter all over my fingers. If I try to make a ham sandwich out of it the meat sticks way out from the bread.

I'm wondering what can be done about this problem. :shrug

The bread should be baked like a big doughnut or bagel. Wherever you slice it, it's in the middle. Like God Himself, no beginning, no end.

Butter it and lick the excess off your fingers. I wish my diet allowed this right now.....

Make it homemade and shape the loaf to meet your needs.

In fact, they're working on it. I guess that was one of the last things that Obama did before leaving office. An excerpt from the article;

Washington — President Barack Obama said Thursday his administration is giving $80 million in aid to for the research and development of loaves of bread either without heels, or heels big enough to properly butter without getting butter on ones fingers. Children are more susceptible to getting butter on their fingers than adults. Children's safety is paramount, Obama said.

Speaking to a gathering of mayors at the White House, the president called the small heels on bread loaves, an “inexcusable” situation. He noted money recently secured in the bipartisan budget agreement will help cities build the necessary machinery and tooling to either bake hell-less loaves of bread, or slicing machines which would eliminate undersized heels.

“We’re going to have that funding available to you by the end of next week, and that includes $80 million for the bread crisis,” Obama said.

“Our children should not have to be worried about getting butter on their fingers when they're making toast in American cities. That’s not something that we should accept.”

A White House official later said the revolving fund money would be made immediately available. The oval office will decide how much of the $80 million will be directed to each particular state, with preference given to states which may already have prototypes available.../

They're actually doing something about the problem.

Just goes to show you how wrong term limits are.

Let the dog or cat lick it off your fingers.
...if their diet allows it.

I can't even have the bread, much less the butter. But when I'm done with my diet you bet I'll eat the heals and lick the butter.

Heals are actually my favorite part of any bread.

Yeah.
But then you gain the weight back.
So what's the use of dieting in the first place?

There's much that one can say here.
Especially being a chatterbox like I am.

One.
Why are you eating bread? You're so skinny, you need the extra calories?
Throw the two pieces in the garbage; better they should be there than in your tummy making you gain weight.

Two.
Does that look like Italian bread to you?
Did it come with a guarantee?
Return the darn stuff.

Here's what Italian bread looks like:

And BTW,
I don't wanna hear that you found the top picture under Images Of Italian Bread.
Who knows --- some American type person probably put the picture there by mistake.

Oh, I just google whatever smiley I want. Like smiley spilling the beans, and I found that. You can find most any smiley that way. Sometimes you have to click on it and go to that page before copying it to paste into a post. You can preview the post to see if it's going to show up and function ok, some don't most will.
