According to James 3:8 it specifically states that our tongues can never be tamed and I strongly disagree with that because if we think before we speak we can.

So you are now disagreeing with the Bible? Do you never lose your temper and say things that you later realize were inappropriate, wrong, or offensive? I can answer that one myself as you have lost your temper here on CFnet a time or two.According to James 3:8 it specifically states that our tongues can never be tamed and I strongly disagree with that because if we think before we speak we can.

Sure it's preventable if you guard your tongue every time you speak, especially when your emotions flare up in anger or gossiping. It's like what Paul said and I agree, "There is no good thing in the flesh." Romans 7:14-25.
To prove this try going one week without saying anything in anger towards anyone or gossiping about someone and let us know how that goes.
Just like sin, I don't believe it is possible for us. It would go against our nature. If it was possible, we wouldn't need a savior.Sure it's preventable if you guard your tongue every time you speak, especially when your emotions flare up in anger or gossiping. Actually it's very rare for me to actually get angry or gossip so I will go ahead and take your challenge.
Be honest with yourself. How many times have you gotten mad at your mom and argued with her as you tell us about it. For that matter even get mad at me, WIP or anyone else in here as you say we are annoying at times. Even telling someone they are annoying is speaking from anger.
We all have spoken words against someone and always will as we are housed in this fleshly body that will continue to bare its sin nature. Should it be this way, no, but like I said and it always annoys you, if we are walking in the Spirit we will shed the sins of the flesh, but we don't always walk in the Spirit when we allow our emotions speak for us.
But you refer to them as "snowflakes" which is held animosity toward others. Even though you don't name them individually, you are harboring thoughts toward a group that does not build them up. See Ephesians 4:29 ESVYeah, I think I'm pretty good when it comes to holding my tongue about other people. However, does this also count with getting angry with yourself? I will also admit, I was talking about snowflakes today who get offended when mentioning the name of God, but it wasn't about anybody specific and it was just a fact that they do as it wasn't said in anger.
I think that the most important thing to remember here is that it doesn't always matter what you say, it matters on how you say it. For example last night I was roleplaying with this one girl and I have to admit that she was being a bit bossy on the fact that she was trying to control what my characters did.
However, instead of getting angry with her and calling her out on it, I just calmly talked to her about it and basically explained in not so many words that it's no fun to roleplay if you can't use your own imagination and use your own ideas and I think that she really got the message.
I reassured her that I wasn't angry with her and we both decided to agree on the plot of the story, but she won't tell me what to do with my characters anymore just like I won't tell her what to do with hers. Except we're still allowed to give each other suggestions.
So I guess what I'm saying is that the truth doesn't always have to be spoken in an angry and nasty way. It can be spoken in a loving matter as well. I think for the most part everybody already knows that though.
What you have said here reminded me of James 3:10. We need to chose our words that we speak to others so we do not tear them down for the choices they make or what they speak. Do we always do that, no, as sin nature resides in the flesh, but yet does not give us a license to speak evil against anyone. We will always struggle between the flesh and the Spirit and the more we press into the Spirit the more the Holy Spirit will convict us of the evil we speak against another.
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
So,.. in other words,... I did good?
