wow that one is pre 911, I didn't read that part. i sent this to my mother and she remembered them and where it was as we both have often ate there . it is functional and did have dial tone. I have made a call with it.

Cool! That's awesome! I have never gotten the opportunity to try the dials on these phones. We always had buttons on our phones. It seems interesting, though!

Rotary phone .o for emergency that's an,old I have used a few pay phones and has rotary ,of you notice the letter correspond to texts.early cell phone texting was like that

My mom's family were farmers in southwest Virginia. When I was a kid the phone in their house had the hand crank to make all the phones in their valley ring. Each farm had its own "ring", like 2 longs and a short. If someone called a neighbor everyone knew who was getting a call. They all could pick up the phone and listen in. When we called them from Maryland we had to go through the operator and the operator would do their ring. Same thing, everyone in the Valley knew they were getting a call.
We had a party line at our house, and the dial type phone. My mom still had hers until she died in 2016.
With a party line only your phone rings, but if someone else on the party line happened to pick up their phone while you are talking, they could listen in.
People used phones a lot less then and so there wasn't much problem.

Those were the days. No scam robocalls. If the phone rang, it was probably someone you wanted to actually talk to. Bring back the old fashioned dial phones. It was better than the nonsense that goes on today.

Magnetto the ringer is a magnetto .I had one that did work ,plugged it in and it did get dial tone .my,wife had one going back to the wall mounted type.

My mother went to work for Bell Telephone early in WWII. Somewhere we have a picture of her at the switchboard with all the lines the operator had to plug into the correct spots to connect people. That was in Baltimore. He father, a WWI vet had gotten a job in the shipyard in Baltimore.

Yep, My brother-in-laws parents had that sorta setup where you had a certain ring for your house and all the neighbors listened in. That was San Dia, Texas in the 70s.

This was my Grandparents crank phone back in 1953. My older sisters who are twins were 2 years old. I came along in 1954 and remember this wooden boxed a few years later before they got a dial phone. I remember them calling it the gossip line, even with the dial phone as they all had a party line and everyone knew your business. We have come along way baby.

The house we grew up in used to house the switchboard.

A switchboard or the one for the area?

I would have no idea as I was only two years old when we moved into the house as the switch board was no longer there. I would only assume it was the operators house for that area as it was a small community.
