I used to think democracy is flawless

I used to think democracy is without flaw. It is as flawed. There's something really CRAZY about demoCRACY ( - where most individuals demonstrate their craze! No wonder why you have demo + craze in democracy).

The former seems straight forward.:sad

Actually, I don't think real democracies exist. What we have are representative democracies (where we elect our leaders, as opposed to each of us attending each meeting). I wouldn’t want to be governed by dictators or oligarchs, and I think true democracy is impractical. That leaves representative democracy. If you were thinking of living under a theocracy, take a look at Iran.

A true democracy or even our representative democracy has its failings. For one, a true democracy would likely result in ungodly living. We should be governed by our King and non other. I guess we are no different than the Israelites who demanded that God give them a king.

In this era of electronic communication, true democracy probably is possible.

I would like to have more influence on our politicians (who really just represent themselves and their friends) but I fear the results of true democracy. I simply do not trust my ignorant, bigoted, prejudiced, fellow man!

I would advocate non-party politics. Elect a representative who then follows the electronic wishes of his electorate on every Bill until such time as his conscience stops him following them. That prompts a quick electronic election to replace OR re-install him. With a few more tweaks, it SHOULD cut out all influence of big business - which is the true enemy of democracy. It would of course allow people's religion, or lack of it, to influence the way we are governed.

That sounds a little closer to real democracy but with a safeguard - or would the representatives all just do everything they were told simply to keep their salaries?

As long as people have faults no form of government is going to be perfect.

It is my opinion that a constitutional republic is the best bet. But I'm still learning and all.:study

A great idea. (I missed an important selection from your OP)Anyway...what makes you think the machines have not already been messed up by them? Manipulated machines. You can't just know...

It is. A constitutional republic limits the concentraton of power, fosters individual liberties, and protects minorities.

The fatal flaw of a pure democracy is that it inevitably becomes mob rule. Benjamin Franklin described democracy as "two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch."
