Identity Fraud

Wow! :crazy My wife and I had a panic attack. We were alerted by Chase Bank that someone was trying to make a few charges of over $2000 from California (we live in Michigan), which they refused. They brought it to our attention, and we found in the last month, someone has been making purchases from iTunes $40-$60 at a time every day. They racked up over $1400 in iTunes charges and interest in a month!

Fortunately, Chase cleared all our obligations immediately! Whew!

Has anyone had a problem with credit card or identity fraud? It's a very stressful situation, almost like someone broke into our house and made off with our personal belongings.

Our card is now replaced, and we should be good. But we'll be much more diligent in tracking our card's activity.

Beware out there!

Hrm do you use your credit card often online? And if so do you keep a run a good anti-malware/spyware program? I've heard a lot of stolen credit card numbers are from simply using it online, because keyloggers will get you.

I worked for sprint too and someone working there got caught using customer credit card numbers for other customers to get sales for themselves... it was pretty sad.

Can't say it's ever happened to me though.

I have heard that more identity theft occurs from sales outside of internet use!

Since I rarely give out CC #s over the phone and have high security on my PCs and usually use only trusted sites, I'm not concerned. Plus, who says my identity is worth it's weight in CC plastic anyway? :lol I only use a debit card with limited funds for these sort of transactions. :yes
