If Jesus did not return

Ah, so you'd take that belief to the grave with you, as it were. :P

What would you think?
No one knows the day or the hour, so why should I think it would be in my life time?

If he never returned, as in the world ended and Jesus never came then it would turn out that we were all wrong.

Was this supposed to be a "gotcha" type question?

We all take our belief's to the grave. Believer and nonbeliever alike. The only difference is, for some, that grave permanent. :tongue

1 Thessalonians
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

Daniel 12
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

John 20
29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

2 Peter 3
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:1-4 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

The question should not be what if Jesus does not return. The question you should be asking instead is: What if our beliefs in the manner of his return are wrong? If I am looking for the return of a man, then am I still captive to the flesh? But they that are born of the Spirit, they understand that the Spirit of Christ already dwells in them, and they are led of the Spirit; they do not look for the coming of a man, for Christ is already with them.

No one lnows the day or hour is a reference to the feast of Trumpets which is confirmed by the sighting of the new moon which may occur on the 29th day or the 30th day.

Yes, but looking within doesn't change the declaration that one day Jesus will return.

Hence the question: What if your understanding of that declaration is wrong, because your understanding is of the flesh? But the Spirit declares all things.
If the Spirit of Christ is here, and He dwells in us, then why should I look for another Christ that I might worship after the manner of a man?

I understand what you are saying. My question to you would be wouldn't you want to meet him in person? Ask him questions?

Sheesh...I agree. There are several Christians views of how this will happen and what that will look like.
It's not essential to our relationship and walk with Christ for us to know for sure.

If I could speak or even just listen to Him, as I'm sure I don't have any question that is uncommon to man, I would have many questions.
But more than anything just to be in a place where His light shines and there is absolutely no darkness anymore, will be the answer enough.

I understand what you are saying. My question to you would be wouldn't you want to meet him in person? Ask him questions?

I'm sorry, I am not really sure how to answer this question. There is a part of me that might, but the spirit within me not so much? If I were to meet him in person, would he be as a brother? If I wanted to ask him a question in person, would I then need to make an appointment? Jesus said I go that the comforter may come, and he will teach you in all things.

Everyone will get to meet Him in person. Even you.

2 Corinthians 5
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Romans 14
10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

11 For it is written:
As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

Matthew 12
36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
