The Jungle Trail (pre-1945 State Road 252) was part of A1A in northeastern Indian River County, Florida. The narrow, seven-and-a-half mile long road is located between Old Winter Beach Road and the current A1A, along the western side of Orchid Island, and is unpaved. It is part of the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway system, and the southernmost road in the highway system.

The road started as a means to quickly transport citrus to packinghouses on the mainland, then in the 1930s and 1940s became more used by tourists.[7] On August 1, 2003, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Stunning photos, both past & present, although I rather like the relatively undeveloped land photos of the past. (But then, there are times when I'm living in the wrong era)

I may when I have a chance bump to the 80's one and see what has changed. pelican island wildlife refuge was around then. I would have to circle the area on the right topo. but I want to show where I was talking about the panthers and animals. the area called riomar is easily seen then. it hasn't changed as far the golf course since the 40's the club house was demolished recently. sadly. it was a good private school and it was built by the man who moved to get r&r from his war time injuries. but google earth still has the images.View attachment 4430

was, and remember black and white photos seems to show the water better. though those old photos era pics of the lagoon are in its more pristine days.

this is the south area of jungle trail in 1945, south of the pics of above. I thought this was more curved its not its the same. the only change to the trail is a small part north of 510. also theres a park with an old home that I will point on in the topo where it might be. its hard to see it but from google earth im able to show where it was. the man captian forester was the one who helped start citrus in florida. the trail is in red and the old bridge is in blue. this bridge was put out by my fil in the 50's. also in the second topo you can see why its called jungle trail. a few homes still stand today from that era and prior.View attachment 4469 the area where he lived is circled.
