If You Won The Lottery

I bought into the hype and did buy tickets in the past. But never again.

I used to view it at "fun" but at the end of the day things like the lottery play into one's sinful nature of greed. Sure, if I won I might spend some of the money (or even most of it) on worthwhile causes, but only after my own needs are meet 100%. If we are honest that is the case with all of us.

If you look at the demographics most lottery money comes from the poor and it's really just a form of exploitation by our government.

Here's what I learned. If I took the $20/week I wasted on the lottery and bumped up my monthly Roth IRA contribution I will have an extra $80,000 after 30 years. I like those odds much much better than 1:180,000,000 to win the lottery.
Your post made me laugh - because I have always said that the lottery is for people who don't understand math.

YOU understand math. :thumbsup

I'd give 10% to a good Christian charity and have a trust set up for the rest. I might also use a big chunk to pursue a Christian version of the 1970s mental health experiement, "Soteria." I think there's one in Alaska, but they've all been secular so far.

Yeah, that's why I just keep my plan in the back of my head and don't actually buy tickets. I figure if I'm meant to win the lotto then God can manage for me to just find a ticket on the ground from a silly somebody who didn't write their name in ink on the back...
