Your post made me laugh - because I have always said that the lottery is for people who don't understand math.I bought into the hype and did buy tickets in the past. But never again.
I used to view it at "fun" but at the end of the day things like the lottery play into one's sinful nature of greed. Sure, if I won I might spend some of the money (or even most of it) on worthwhile causes, but only after my own needs are meet 100%. If we are honest that is the case with all of us.
If you look at the demographics most lottery money comes from the poor and it's really just a form of exploitation by our government.
Here's what I learned. If I took the $20/week I wasted on the lottery and bumped up my monthly Roth IRA contribution I will have an extra $80,000 after 30 years. I like those odds much much better than 1:180,000,000 to win the lottery.
