IKEA used forced labor (helped by East German Stasi), Swedish furniture giant admits

Once upon a time there was a country which carefully preened itself as representing equity and purveying much rhetoric about worker rights.

All the time, its giant company IKEA, was using forced labor facilitated by Communist East Germany's Stasi (headed by the odious Erich Mielke, his eventual status as a convicted murderer having been long - and widely - suspected). Thus, new meaning meaning was given to the notion of Parliamentary oversight in a country which really prides itself for being very centralized and interventionist.

The country was Sweden, which evidently hit a low not seen since its leaders let Hitler's troops travel through their country in World War Two.

If I were American (which I'm not), why would I be expected to take much notice of the barrage of superior, anti-American rhetoric which for years come from official circles in Sweden, all the time while they were allowing a leading Swedish company to brutalize workers by cooperating with the ghastly leaders of a disgraceful, and unlamented, régime?

This kind of thing does a grave disservice to the memories of true, Swedish heroes such as Raoul Wallenberg (who saved many Jews in World War Two), and Folke Bernadotte, UN High Commissioner (mown down by Ben Gurion's security man).
