In what ways did Joseph prosper?

In the story of Joseph, it says 'whatever Joseph did, God made to prosper.'
So how could Jospeph have prospered in his master's house? I can see 'in the field' his crops were probably many, like how Isaac reaped a hundred fold.
Also in jail, he was put in charge because whatever he did God made him to prosper. What on earth could he be doing to prosper in jail?

Joseph was so successful as a servant that Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph care and Joseph was in charge. I don't think specifics were given or would add to the testimony as was noted by Potiphar that Gods favor rested with Joseph. Potiphar recognized that his household was blessed and prospered because of Gods favor with Joseph. Joseph was jailed because of his righteousness. He refused to fool around with his masters wife despite her advances. And she falsely testified that Joseph had tried to sleep with her. But then Gods favor shinned of Joseph and He was put in charge of the prison ward.

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. 5From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lordblessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 6So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Specifics weren't provided in scripture. Other than Gods favor was with Joseph and Joseph did such a good job those over him kept putting Joseph in charge of everything ending in Jospeh being in charge of all Egypt. So it wasn't Joseph but the grace of God in Joseph that gave him those skills.

Genesis Chapter 40 - 45
While being in prison Joseph still had favor in the Lord as he was given charge over the other prisoners. It was through the interpretations he gave to the butler and the baker of what they dreamed that led Pharaoh to call on Joseph and bring him out of the prison to interpret his dream. Joseph found great favor in Pharaoh as all that Joseph had before going to prison was restored back to him and not only restored much was added to him as he became ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Joseph also prospered as he gained back his family.

He was the CEO of Egypt, the most powerful kingdom in that part of the world at the time.

I think your getting two different things confused.. it says what ever Joseph did God made it prosper.. That does not necessarily mean Joseph himself did well money wise out of all that He did.. It just means what ever task Joseph did turned out well.. It turned out well for His earthly masters like Pharaoh and Egypt and more...

In the long run Joseph did prosper He became the send in command of all Egypt so he ended up having access to anything he desired..

Obviously you have never been to jail.

Even in jail there is a social order. There's food, housing and clothing to literally fight over. (It is full of criminals)
The guards there are to keep the peace. But usually enlist a few of the best behaved prisoners to help with daily tasks.
There is also a social structure... pecking order (if you will)... some prisoners are more comfortable than others.

Apparently Joseph was respected and liked by his fellow prisoners and guards alike. And he rose to the top of the pecking order in jail. Likely he was the one truly innocent man in jail. A true "victim of circumstances". (And that usually means something to them)

Most people who are in jail know that they deserve to be there. Even if they are there doing time for a crime they didn't commit. They usually admit that they have committed plenty of other crimes that should have gotten them in jail. Also these people from the "working class" go about unseen...and so they tend to know things about the rich elites. Potiphar's wife would have been one that they would have known about and gossiped about at length. I'm sure that Joseph wasn't her first or only victim.

Turning her down would give him tremendous amounts of status and class amongst his peers... even in jail.

But it was the vehicle used by God to promote him to the very top of the only superpower nation in the area.

Are you looking at prospering monetarily or as in Gods favor of the status Joseph had over the other prisoners? Not sure what you are asking as there are many good answers here.

Joseph was one of those go-to-guys you love to be around, dependable, liked, blessed and always find their way to the top

It says that 'whatever Joseph did, God made to prosper.' I'm not talking monetary, tho it was obviously included when he was made ruler over Egypt.
What are these 'whatever's.
Was he great at fixing things? When he did something for his master did his master end up with more? Did he prosper his master monetarily? Maybe he helped breed horses, and they all ended up as good as royal steeds. Maybe he took care of plants and they all blossomed profusely.
As for being in jail, I can't think of anything at all he would have prospered at. I'm aware we no idea what jail was like in those days. And hopefully not in these days either.

Joseph prospered in Gods favor whether being thrown in a pit, being sold in slavery, serving in his masters house or even being thrown in jail. It's like being crapped on, but coming up smelling like a rose.
