Bible Study Indwelling Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is simply the Spirit of God and is referred to being part of the trinity that is Father, Son (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost. God is a Spirit and wants us to worship or another word for worship is to humble ourselves before him in spirit and truth. God is not flesh and blood that we can see and touch with our physical senses for he has no form but the Spirit that is God can take on many forms for us to hear him speak to us. Gods’ spirit spoke to many prophets throughout the Bible through pillars of clouds a burning bush, a donkey or spoke with visions through dreams to reveal his will for encouragement and instruction. Gods' spirit was and still is alive and moves through the hearts of his who are called by his name and have answered his call to salvation through Jesus. John 4:24; Exodus 3:4; Numbers 12:5; 22:28; Genesis 37:5.

The Spirit of God was made flesh (Jesus) to walk among us teaching us and showing signs and wonders for the people to repent of their evil ways and come back to God. Many came back to God and were made servants worthy to praise him and continue in his works but there were many (Pharisees and Priest) that despised what they were hearing for it came against their laws and traditions and they felt they needed to silence this man, not knowing that it was actually the Spirit of God they were trying to silence. John 1:1-5; 11:45, 46

The Pharisees and Scribes thought they did away with this man named Jesus, but did not realize that one of the promises God made with Abraham was that he would never leave or forsake his own. Jesus also told his disciples about how he had to go and be with the Father and if they would keep his commandments the Father would give them another comforter that would be with them forever and teach them all things and bring those things back to their remembrance. Genesis 12:1-3; Deuteronomy 4:29-31; John 14:15,16; Acts 2:1-4

The disciples could not understand with their carnal minds what Jesus was teaching them, but they knew he was a prophet sent from God and accepted the authority and power which he taught with through miracles, signs and wonders. It would not be until the Spirit of God was taken up out of the tomb and revealed to the hearts of those who believed on him that the same Spirit would be sent back down to dwell in the hearts of those who believed. Romans 8:6,7; Acts 1:1-8; 2:1-4

When we repent of our sins and ask Jesus into our hearts we are also receiving the promise of God that his Spirit will come and dwell in our hearts and teach us of all things we need to learn. The baptism that Peter was talking about was a Spiritual rebirth through the word of God. Some people think it is being dunked or sprinkled with water the way John the Baptist did as he was the forerunner of Jesus and there is nothing wrong with that for it is an outward appearance to man that you have received Jesus and the Holy Spirit into your life, but Jesus himself never baptized with water for the baptism of Jesus was for receiving the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) that helps us to know the will of the Father. Acts 2:38,39; John 14:26; Matthew 3:11

The Holy Spirit will teach you things the carnal mind cannot perceive. Jesus explains the purpose of the Holy Spirit and the relationship of the believers to Christ and what relationship the believers have to the world in John chapters 14 and 15. Please read both chapters before you read on as the importance of these two chapters will help you understand the rest of this chapter on the Holy Spirit.

We receive power and authority through the Holy Spirit to carry on the works of the Lord until His glorious return. In order to stay in Gods will you must posses the mind of Christ to know the works we do are not of ourselves, but that of the Father who started a good work in you. Jesus has started a good work within you and we can only carry out these works through the Holy Spirits guidance as we help meet the needs of others who need a touch from God. Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-20; Philippians 2:5-8

The Holy Spirit bears witness of Jesus to us as he did to the disciples on the day of Pentecost for us to gain truth through Spiritual eyes and ears. The disciples could not understand the works of the Lord with their carnal minds until they received power from God and after that the Holy Spirit came on them to teach them how to do the will of the Father. God gives us his power and authority through the Holy Spirit to be over comers and to take his word out into the world with love and compassion as we allow the Holy Spirit speak through us.

That same power that is in us only comes through the Holy Spirit and all we need to do is ask and receive that power through faith and it will manifest immediately within our spirit. That power gives us Spiritual authority against anything that tries to come against us. We have the same promises that God gave to Abraham because even though we are Gentiles we are under that same covenant that God established with Abraham because we are joint heirs with Jesus which makes us a child of God.Galatians 3:14; Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 4:7; Romans 3:29

We can do nothing through the flesh because our flesh is as a filthy rag to God and produces vanity which is not of God, but of self. Jesus has begun the good works through you and the Holy Spirit will guide you the whole way if you only believe and allow Him to. God uses the eyes and voice of men to teach us this word through the Holy Spirit, but always be aware of what you are being taught for the Bible warns us that there are many false prophets and false teachers out there and we can only tell by what fruits that are coming out of their mouths whether they be of God or of flesh. When you are being taught by others take the scriptures home and studying them for yourself by allowing the Holy Spirit teach you and give you understanding so when you are being taught by others you will know how to discern truth and know for a surety that what is being taught is of God and not mans interpretations of the word of God. Galatians 3:1-3; Isaiah 64:6; Matthew 7:15-17; 1John 4:1-6

Hi Glory Girl. You have a good thread going here. I have a question about this statement of yours. "The Spirit of God was made flesh (Jesus) to walk among us teaching us and showing signs and wonders"

Now, as I read your words, you are saying that the Holy Spirit is actually Jesus, and not a separate part of the Trinity. Could you please explain your doctrine.

Hi Chopper,
It's all Gods Spirit manifested in three separate ways that we call the Trinity of God, but still being all the fulness of God in all His power and authority whom uses His power and authority within us by that of His Holy Spirit that we are indwelled with and who works in us and through us for the purpose of His ministry.

Ok, there are Scriptures that state God's Spirit. Also Christ's Spirit. And then there is the singular, Holy Spirit. three distinct Beings that make up the Trinity. I'm concerned that a new believer might get the wrong impression that the Holy Spirit is really Jesus and therefore the Godhead would only be two, not three.

FHG,
You are trying to mix Modalism and Trinitarianism. They don't mix. The triune Godhead is three distinct Divine Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, NOT three manifestations of the same Person.

Why do you assume all three are not Gods Spirit? I do not even know what Modalism or Trinitarianism is. The word trinity is not found in scripture, but descriptive as the union of three divine figures. What makes all three divine is Gods Spirit. Is it not the power and authority of God that worked through Jesus, the Holy Spirit and even now we who are indwelled with Gods Holy Spirit? I see it as three variations of Gods Spirit that speaks to us in three separate ways.

It can be confusing to a new believer and that is why I said in paragraph 6 to read John chapter 14, 15 before they read the rest of this post as this will help explain who the Holy Spirit is that God has sent down to us.

The Spirit of God was made flesh (Jesus) to walk among us
THat is incorrect.
Jhn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jhn 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (RSV)

It is the Word (LOGOS) who became flesh, not the Spirit.

Yup! FHG, Jesus was and Jesus is eternal, the Father was and the Father is eternal, the Holy Spirit was and is eternal. They are one God and they are three eternally separate persons. Can I explain how that can be, no mam.

But God has recorded this to be truth and if we are saved by faith through the God given grace, all we need do is to hold onto this truth until we go Home and can study it, first hand, forever.
FHG.
Chopper is centered on the issue and Malachi has pointed directly at, what I also see as the error in this issue. The scriptures, The second half of the study from http://www.biblestudytools.com/concordances/naves-topical-bible/god-continued.html

The word trinity is not found in scripture,..
But the word "Godhead" (Greek theiotes) is found in Scripture. And it refers to the TRIUNE Godhead. Please note carefully (Mt 28:19): Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
"The name" is singular and refers to the name of God - YAHWEH. Yet within that singular name there are three Divine Persons, all distinct from each other, and all are God -- God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Hence in the Old Testament God is called Yahweh Elohim (LORD God) and Elohim is a uni-plural word.

Is this a Divine Mystery? Absolutely. Are we supposed to comprehend this or simply believe it? The answer should be obvious. Every new convert must be baptized and understand that God is One, yet He is three Persons. The cults reject the deity of Christ, and the personhood and deity of the Holy Spirit.

Knowing this is a complicated please lets try and keep the postings some what in a Bible Study format... Thanks Admin

FGH,
I went straight to the Word of God for your benefit but if you will not study there is none that can help you. You have said correctly that the english word, Triune, is found in the Bible but I will assure you that neither does the word, Rapture, appear in the scriptures. The complete study prepared by US Navy Chaplin Nave is very concise and perhaps as complete as is found anywhere on this earth, please begin the study.

The English words, Triune and Trinity, codify what the scriptures teach just as the word Rapture codifies the teaching of Jesus catching His Church away. You say you do not know the difference between the heretical Modalism and the correct teaching of the Triune God Head. Modalism is the unscriptural teaching that God has appeared to man or has made Himself known to man in three modes, dumb. The Triune God is one God in three eternally distinct persons that have no beginning and no end.

I believe what all of you are saying as the three are separate, but none functions separate from Gods Spirit or Gods will. There is God who is Spirit without form that dwells in His throne room in heaven. There is Jesus as the word of God made flesh that through His life, death and resurrection our confessed sins are forgiven as Jesus is our mediator before the Father as He sits at the right hand of God making intercession for us. There is the Holy Spirit come down after Jesus ascended back to the Father who is our comforter and Spiritual teacher as He opens our Spiritual eyes to understand that of what God wants us to learn.

Example: We are one in accord by that of the indwelling Holy Spirit, but each of us has a separate work to do within the administration of the Church and all we do is by that of Gods Spirit working in us and through us.

This is interesting. I like discussing Spirits and Spirit-realm stuff...

Father, Son, Holy Spirit...three distinct beings, yet one. No confusion there, Aunt Bee, lol...

Need more confusion?
Revelation 5:6
The seven Spirits of God. These are also separate, distinct beings, with their own Names and personalities. How do they fit in to God's plan? Are they the Holy Spirit? No! Are they, the Spirit of God ? (The Father?)...

I think...yes and no. The best conjecture I have is, that...spirits can merge into a collective spirit. We see this happened in scripture, in Mark 5:9

And it's all throughout scripture that our spirit will merge with Jesus's Spirit. That Jesus lives in us. Some scriptures...

2 Corinthians 13:5
Romans 8:10
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
Galatians 1:15-16
Galatians 2:20
Galatians 4:19
Ephesians 3:17

Different Spirits have different jobs, hence, the Holy Spirit, seven Spirits of God, Jesus...us

I heard a sermon on the seven Spirits of God, and he named them, (dunno how), and they are Wisdom, Knowledge, Prudence, Charity, and... I forget the rest.

I think our spirit is our link to God. That we have a spirit, enables the Holy Spirit to come into us, bear witness to our spirit...it gives Him a place to come to, to indwell us.

The Word from the beginning up to the end will always be that of God who is Spirit, not flesh and blood, that has always spoken to us. In the OT God spoke through His Prophets. In the NT God spoke through Jesus as being His only begotten Son as Gods Word was made flesh through that of Jesus. Now God speaks through His Holy Spirit that indwells us to teach us the Spiritual things of God that the carnal mind can not comprehend. Jesus said if you knew me you would know the Father as the words Jesus speaks are Gods word, John 14:6-10.

With all due respect to you Bill as I know you teach truth. I said I did not know what Modalism or Trinitarianism is as I never heard those words before. I know what the trinity is as in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit being separate, but yet all of God. I usually do not use big words like these as it confuses a young Christian that has very little knowledge other than the basics of Gods salvation. Even I have to look up these types of words to understand their meaning.

Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

These are the seven spirits that are speaking to the seven churches in Revelations as you have said they all have different jobs

But it is the duty (Matt. 28:18-20) of the Elder Christian to instruct the young. If or when we do not, Satan will!
