I was just wondering if somebody on here could help me understand this a bit better. In Exodus twenty-five God starts talking all about the offerings that He wants made towards Him, but is there a purpose for this? Do they represent something? :confused

Basically these offerings were to be made from the heart in obedience to God's commands given to Moses on the mountain top which also included the designs and furnishings for the Tabernacle and the sanctuary of the Lord. Within the Tabernacle built by hands God dwelt therein with the children of Israel through His Shekinah glory that filled the Tabernacle.

The purpose was in God demanding obedience to come from the heart which is the intimate place of our relationship with Him. Now the Tabernacle and sanctuary of the Lord dwells in us as there is no more Tabernacle/Temple made by hands, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17. God knows who are His own by the relationship they have with Him. Along with the commands of God brings us blessings for obedience or cursing for disobedience, Deuteronomy 28-30.

Okay, but does the Bible explain exactly why the Lord wanted them as offerings and did they represent anything other than that?

Yes. right there in Exodus 25:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

God wants us to give our best to Him from our heart. Just like Cain and Abel. Abel gave his best from his heart, but Cain just gave what he wanted to give as he was selfish with giving his best and God did not honor Cain's offering.

It's the same In Exodus 12:35, 36 Moses told the Israelite's to borrow of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment. They had no idea why, but were obedient in doing so as when they obeyed, the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. They didn't know until later they were collecting those things God told them to supply to the Tabernacle as they were obedient and gave the best of what they were given by the Egyptians.

It all represents our obedience to God's commands.
