Interratial Relationships

Skin colour isn't my biggest concern when it comes to relationships - it's culture. I've been involved in a cross-culture relationship and I will NEVER be that stupid again. Ever! It was a disaster from the word 'go' and for some inexplicable reason it lasted for more than a year. He was Polish and I am South African, and the cultures were just incompatible. I would strongly advise people not to go there unless they were born with a health set of hair on their teeth. :D And what made matters worse was the fact that he was Catholic and I am Dutch Reformed.

It seems to me those without experience make the naive blanket statement that skin color doesn`t matter, but those with experience realize it is not the skin color but the cultural differences that people need to be cautious of. So yes people are people, but to deny there are differences among those groups is a big mistake. So the real question is are you compatable with that person`s cultural/social upbringing or not. Personality wise you might be compatable, but if you are not comfortable living within the other person`s culture, there will be problems as l`Chante pointed out. I know lots of bi-racial/intercultural couples and a lot just don`t make it because they focused too much on personality and ignored the cultural aspects, got married, got shocked, and eventually split up. L`Chante is fortunate to have been aware of the cultural differences from the start. Others probably see signs but ignore them. If differences are acknowledged then they can be appreciated, accepted and embraced if the differences are compatable.

There are some cultures I wouldn't mind marrying... Find a nice Jewish girl who wants to make her parents mad and then converts to Christianity but still keeps that fine Jewish cooking I love! :thumbsup

The Jewish culture is lovely indeed, but I`d be very cautious of any girl that wanted to purposely make her parents mad. That behavior would transfer into marriage! You might get burnt toast and a frying pan over your head instead of a delicious Jewish meal with a girl with that sort of an attitude!!! :lol

Since you are single, I strongly encourage you to look very carefully at how a girl interacts with her parents, in particular her father and also watch how her parents interact with each other to get an idea of what she might bring into marriage.
