Is footbal biblical? Is everything non-biblcal wrong?

Friends,

Is football biblical? Is everything non-biblical wrong? For example, how

does a person justify what they where? The Bible neither says wear a grey

shirt or do not where a grey shirt. These things were referred to by the

Lutherans in the 16th century as "adiaphora" which I gather is Greek for

"indifferent things". Take care.

I have no idea what you're getting at here, but I don't see that this is appropriate for the Bible Study Forum. When in doubt, put it in the snake pit, I guess.

Dear Mike. I was just lightening things up a bit. Understand it in context. Where does the Bible, seriously, teach "Sola Scriptura"? Where? In Erie PA Scott Harrington

Yes, it is wrong. All past times, hobbies, leisure activities are wrong - they take time from your worship and service. You work, sleep, worship, pray and serve.
All else is sin.

Football would have been more Bibical if the Bears would have won today. :)
Good point, Whitney! Green Bay was highly favored. And I guess underdogs need blessing from God, not just the big guys everyone expects to win. Anyway, I guess in a rather silly sort of way I was attempting to make a point about LEGALISM. Some things neither harm nor help the soul. Card playing. Eating a chocolate bar. As long as one doesn't eat too many sweets. It is best to pray and not do too many indifferent things, like football though. But I guess it's more American than strictly biblical to like football. Anyway, life is like a game, and if you play by the rules, you can win. In God's arena, if we keep His commandments, we can be blessed by God. I guess God then is indeed like a Great Scorekeeper. So, if we have to be strictly biblical, do you wear a Jewish prayer shawl and tzitzit (tassels)? I was seriously attempting to make a point about legalism, not to justify or condemn watching football. There is nothing in Scripture that condemns certain colors of shirts, correct? Well, don't you understand what I am trying to say, pizzaguy? Where is pizza said to be biblical? In Erie PA Scott Harrington PS St. Paul deals with legalism in his writings. The attitude, don't touch, don't eat, don't do this, don't do that, do do this, can devolve into a kind of politically correct Phariseeism, traditions of men, and not the commandments of God.

Scott, I dont know if this post is addressed to me or not - I was being sarcastic - I didn't think you were making a serious post at all - so I guess I missed YOUR sarcasm!

To be clear, the answer to the questions in your thread title are:

1) No (But football, as it is played today, IS offensive - but not wrong.)
2) No

Sitting here on the internet when you COULD be reading your bible or washing someone's feet or writing a sermon ----- yup, you continue to do wrong!!!!!!!!!
Dear Pizzaguy, Amen. Seems like we read the Bible so we can quote it "at" or "past" each other to make a point. I bring up 2 Peter 3:9, and someone throws Romans 9. Peter, that great Blessed Rock of Jesus Christ, Who confessed Christ and thus was saved by Christ told us to be careful with how we read St. Paul's epistles. So with that caveat in mind, one should not take a Calvinist take on God causing sin or "hardening hearts", as if God approved of sinning. Not at all. Romans, the same epistle, makes it clear in St. Paul's view: Shall we sin? Since we are saved by grace and not by keeping all the OT Law? Not at all! Christ enables us to fulfill the requirements of the law by faith in Christ (Eph. 2:8-9) and then good works will flow later (Eph. 2:10) after we've been washed by the blood of Christ in water baptism and born again by water and the Holy Spirit (John 3:3,5, 16). Amen. And God is saving those who have not yet been baptized. Salvation is a journey, and there are different steps on it. Pre-baptism, baptism, post-baptism, it all is salvation by faith in Christ, with repentance from dead works, to serve Christ the Son of the Living God, Christ the Living God. In Erie Scott Harrington PS Pizza guy is cool and should join a Frank Zappa look alike contest! Just kidding! I hope you don't take offense, I am just in a fun mood.

Here :) 1Co 4:6 Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.
