Is GENESIS 1 Incomplete?

Of all the things GOD created and made, it seems that the only thing GOD did not account for in HIS account of Creation, that being GENESIS 1, is the creation of the 'angels'. Of course, this is assuming that Adam and Eve are not the first angelic beings. So i would ask all who believe that 'angels' are a distinct and separate creation apart from man, why would GOD not tell us the WHOLE TRUTH in GENESIS 1?

The Bible deals only with the creation of the Earth and all that is in it. God does not tell us the story of heaven before the Creation. Angels are, and that's all we need to know. They are created just as we are. Therefore, we do not need to know how they were created. All we need to know is that they watch over us, at God's behest, and have no power other than what God grants them. That is also how we are given power, so please don't get sidetracked by angels. As (probably) Gabriel told John in his Revelation, when John fell at his feet: "Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God" (Revelation 22:9).

You are right its not in Genesis 1 It is Genesis 2:1-2,3 Which is actualy the end of the creation account. "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and ALL the host of them."
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

I capitalized ALL which means everything obviously. Notice Heavens is plural in this verse also. Since scripture backs up scripture Check out Exodus 20:11
"For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and ALL that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

So, you are saying that before GOD created anything HE had already created the angles. Did you not read GEN 2:1, which refers to ALL the hosts? [Edited by Sparrow] for you must add to GEN 1 to come up with your beliefs. One should never add to, nor diminish from the word, as it is written (Moses, John).

The "host" refers here to the sun, moon and stars, not the angels. As the casting out of Satan from heaven shows, the angels were in existence before the Earth was upgraded from being "formless and void," because that rebellion occurred before the creation event on Earth. God bless you and have a good life.

To put a little perspective on this, it wasn't until much later (the middle ages or renaissance) when chapters and verse numbers were actually applied to the bible. This was for ease of reference. So, any case where something might appear "incomplete" in one chapter you can usually find the remainder of it in the following chapter.

There are plenty of examples in the bible where a specific verse is part of a sentence, not the whole thing.

I had someone tell me that a decade or so after I got saved. Ever since I have been reading his word I have never memorized chapter or verse numbers, only scripture itself. I had always wondered why I did it that way, because it wasnt a concious decision to do it. Thanks for re-stating this information! I had forgotton all about this...

You believe things you cannot prove, and, as i have said, [Edited by Sparrowhawke] GOD spoke the whole truth in GEN 1. Since even Lucifer was created on a 'day' (EZ28:15), and, since the first 'day' was after Creation had begun (GEN1:5), how then could the angels exist before that day? ROM 3:4 - Let GOD be true, but every man a liar!

If we are to believe what GOD said on a matter, and not what men say GOD said, then we can only refer to what GOD said when proving what is the TRUTH. i personally believe that GOD spoke the WHOLE TRUTH of ALL HE created and made in GEN 1 (&2), and as such, believe that ADAM and Eve were the first angelic beings, even though they were yet flesh, since GOD did not mention angel creation. Is it so hard to believe that they were such beings and they glowed of light? Yet people wold rather hear the myth and mysteries that men have created concerning the Beginning (starting with angels), instead of seeing the sinole TRUTH contained in the scriptures. For me, it is sad to see people so deceived, but, i too was deceived on this very matter. The truth is simple, and the story is complete.

Thank you, enlightened. You've concisely stated your position here. Others will either agree or disagree but I don't mind saying that I appreciate your effort(s).

We read "1:1 In the beginning God created * the heaven and the earth." So clearly Genesis 1 talks about the creation of Heaven and Earth. Verse 8 qualifies "1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven." If this is the case then Genesis Ch 1 talks about God's creation of the Earth and the firmament around the earth. We know from Science that the current earth is about 4.5 billion years old. The universe is at least twice that old. We are told the we are star stuff. That a star has to die to create the elements that make us up. Esp the carbon. Of course carbon is what makes a diamond. Gen Ch 2 of course is a discussion about the "generations" that began with Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago in Eden that is believe to be in the Euphrates River Valley. At the time they called this the Mesopotamia Valley. It is actually Psalm 148 vs 2 & 5 where people believe we are told that God created the Angels. http://www.apologeticspress.org/apcontent.aspx?category=11&article=424

Gen 1 talks about the creation of the entire universe, not just the earth. The first earth, which was merely a three-dimensional 'blob' of 'waters', is the contituent of all matter. a part of which was used to form the planet Earth (the 'waters below the firmament'), once GOD instituted 'gravity' into the universe. The 'waters above the firmament' is the boundary of the universe, and the firmament of heaven is the void of space. We are not made of 'star' material, because we came from the earth, which was formed (day 3) before the stars were formed (day 4).

GOD did create the angels, but they were Adam and Eve. No where else in the creation account is there any mention of 'angel' creation, so Adam and Eve have to be them. To believe otherwise, is to add to the Word of GOD, which is a 'taboo'. GOD did not leave us ignorant of HIS Arch enemy, Satan, we just refuse to believe His Account as being perfect (GEN 1), and instead, beleive the myths and fable tha men have created surrounding the angels. Adam became the devil when he chose to decieve Eve. Read what she said GOD spoke as the Commandment, as compare to what HE told Adam, and it is clear she was already deceived.

Enlightened,

When reading your position, it's really hard to know where to begin. I had over a dozen Scriptures laid out for you to consider but I "lost" what I had written and I won't endeavor to do it again. Instead I suggest you look up the word "angel" or "angels" in a concordance and read all these verses. Verses like Psalm 8:3-5, Luke 16:22 , 2 Peter 2:6, & Jude 1:6. When you do you will see that there is a clear distinction between men and angels; there is NEVER any overlap for the usage of the terms. Men are men - angels are angels - period. Mr. thisnumbersdisconnected informed you correctly and where the confussion seems to stem from is that you don't see where angels are created in Genesis. This is because God was describing for you the creation of the heavens and the earth - He did not need to tell us about when He created angels. This being said He does reveal things about them through the rest of Scripture.

So as to your assumption I have some questions: In Genesis 3:11 God is confronting Adam with eating the fruit. In 3:12 Adam blames Eve for giving it to him. In Genesis 3:13 Eve says the serpent tricked her. (So was she referring to Adam as the serpent? Was Adam given fruit by the wife he tricked?) In Genesis 3:14 God speaks punishment to the serpent. In Genesis 3:15 God says there will be enmity between Eve's seed and the serpent and his seed. (If Adam is satan this seems strange because Adam and Eve are husband and wife and will have the same seed. And did Eve's seed crush Adam's seed?) In Genesis 3:16 Eve is punished. In Genesis 3:17 it reads:, "And unto Adam He (God) said..." Wait a minute! I thought God had already spoken to Adam when He addressed the serpent (according to your idea of them being one in the same) now here God is punishing Adam again? After this Adam and Eve go on to bear children (many). As a matter of fact they give birth to Seth through whose "loins" there eventually arises a Savior - CHRIST THE LORD - Are we to believe that the Savior came from the lineage of satan (blasphemy). Actually seth was born when Adam was 130 years old (Genesis 5:3) long after the fall and then Adam dies at the age of 930. So satan had children and died? But then he's still here? huh?

1 Corithians 15:45 says:
"And so it is written, the first Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit."

Do you know Who this last "Adam" is? It's Jesus. Jesus was born a man like Adam. But the first Adam sinned and death came into the world but the man Christ Jesus redeemed us back.
Jesus says in Luke 10:18 that He says satan fall from heaven. When did Adam fall from heaven. Concerning satan read what is said in Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:13-17. Is the Lord speaking about Adam in these verses? Was the fall of man and the first sin the eating of the fruit or was it Adam deceiving his wife? If it was Adam tricking Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil then Adam had this knowledge before anyone ever ate the fruit because deception is evil. This compounds the issue because now the garden was not the place we were led to believe it was. But then again maybe Adam / satan sinned prior to this when he tried to elevate himself above God? All very confusing!

I guess we should just stick with what the Bible says: men are men (created in the Genesis account) and angels (both holy and fallen) we created at a different point as God so chose and we know about them what He chose to disclose which is that angels are ministering spirits (Hebrews 1:14) and the devil and his principalities are God's enemy and our enemy and they roam about seeking whom they may devour (1 Peter 5:8) Adam isn't walking around searching for people to devour - the devil is. Right?

Sir - you need to prayerfully revalute.

Seems like the premise here is close to a logical syllogism.
A logical syllogism is a type of logical argumentation that draws its conclusion from two or more premises.
What is so powerful about this form of argumentation is that the conclusion will follow from the premises logically and inescapably so long as the premises are affirmed as being true.
In order for someone to refute the conclusion they will be forced to deny one or more of the premises and present a case for their negation.
Basic example of a logical syllogism:
  • Premise (1) All men are mortal.
  • Premise (2) All Greeks are men.
  • Conclusion: Therefore, all Greeks are mortal.

As seen here:
Premise (1) The Bible is complete.
Premise (2) Adding to Scripture is sin.
A little slight-of-hand: Let's pretend that Genesis, chapter 1 is the whole bible.
Recall that there may be 2 or more Premises in a logical syllogism and add a 3rd.
Premise (3) GOD told us the WHOLE TRUTH in GENESIS, chapter 1
Conclusion: Therefore, you've added to the Bible when you say that stuff.
False Conclusion: Nothing may be added to Genesis 1

Is this a conundrum? See Proverbs 1:17

Reply Question: Does Revelation 22:18 teach that nothing may be added to the Bible and that the WHOLE TRUTH is found in Genesis chapter 1? Or is the Bible the Living Word of God? Does Revelation 22:19 not also say that nothing is to be subtracted? If we look at Genesis only, what about the other 65 books of the Bible? What about Eccl 3:14?

Here are a couple links to FAQ replies by by Don Stewart, "The Bible Explorer," that address the subject found online in the BlueLetterBible:

I have a hard time with God sayings that wives should learn at home from their lying, deceiving husbands.
