IS HELL FOREVER?

Fictional story using non fictional names? up until the past few years I've not heard of that being fictional for the past 2000 years its been used as a warning, but then nothing surprises me in this new age/nwo way to explain the bible.. Why would Jesus throw a teaser at us, only Satan would do such a thing

What do you mean by "fictional story using non-fictional names?"

Free - turnorburn I believe the Lazarus person and the rich man are also fictional characters. The whole story is describing our relationship with God using the subject of idolatry.

Unless you can prove thee wrong.
Is the story of the rich man and the poor man a real account and a true story or a parable?I can't prove that it is and you can't prove that it was not.Although there is much to be learned by the story.

Kathi Being that Hades is used as a place of torment only once in the Bible and that fact being in Luke 16:19-31 is huge. That says a lot to me.

parables need not be a real event to convey the point. did david take a lamb from a man and give it to a guest? NO that was in reference to the murder of Urijah the Hittite and Bathsheba.

So because it is used only once it does not exist.

Hi Free a member said "And being that it was a fictional story or such, we cannot rely on that as proof." i meant Jesus used non fictional names something he doesn't do in a parable.. In the story of the rich man and Lazarus he used Abraham in his description.. I see these "fictional statements" as fairytale fodder but then I've been seeing quite a few remarks lately about Jesus and his statements that leave doubt and indecision in there wake..

So because it is used only once it does not exist.

A place of torment does exist in the Bible,
but the rest of the Bible describes Gehenna has the place of torment, not Hades.
This tells me something is up with the parable thing, some deeper meaning type thing.

Hades is only used once as a place of torment in the entire Bible and that's Luke 16 parable, the rest of the Bible it is referring to the grave. Why is that.

There are academic sources from world-class scholars who state differently. If I posted an entire 877 word article from the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, would you read it and consider it?

Why don't you just sum up why you think differently on the matter.

Gehenna is more associated with hell.Hades is the place the unbelievers are now who are waiting for their final judgment which will be the Great White Throne Judgment.

Correct, but those who wait in Hades are dead in their graves. Hades is Greek for grave.

Those in hades are souls that are very conscious of their surroundings. They are unbelievers. They know where they are.Only the body awaits in the grave. The soul is separate from the body. The body will rot and decay. It will turn to bones. But a minute after someone dies their soul goes either to hades or heaven.

Luke 16 parable is a fictional story Kathi, using real places to describe our relationship with God.

25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. Luke 16:25

Jesus described this conversation between Abraham and The rich man.

Jesus quoted the literal words that Abraham spoke.

Do you think that Jesus would make up a lie about this conversation.

I'm curious to know how you arrived at this being a parable, when Jesus said that Abraham spoke these words...

Correct, but those who wait in Hades are dead in their graves. Hades is Greek for grave.

So we are faced with believing you and your theory, or believing the plain and clear words of Jesus.

No it doesn't. I'm going to bed. Goodnight.

There's a whole lot of people in Heaven waiting to return with The Lord who would argue that point with you.
