Is making fun of false religions okay?

Solution
Mockery and taunting is not a good characteristic, and certainly not something (I think) Jesus would have encouraged or spoken well of. It is also damaging to our Christian witness. How are we to successfully beckon lost sinners to accept Christ and repent of their sins, when they have seen us acting in an immature and unacceptable manner?
Beside what Christ Jesus commands us to treat others as we would have them treat us, we should also keep in remembrance Proverbs 24:17-18, saying "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth: and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him".
It ought rather to be a sober thing for us who believe, that instead of making light of impenitent sinners, we should pray for them, that if God peradventure, would give them repentance to the acknowledging of the Truth, that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil.

Probably does no good. You definitely can’t here. Verboten. Probably best. Few can do it where God thinks it’s funny. Elijah could but he’s head and shoulders above us.

Mocking and derisive behavior is never a good thing, rather we should try to lovingly explain why the followers of false religions are in darkness and led astray.
Makes one thing about why Elijah did so. The circumstances were quite unusual so this is not what any of us face. It was public and the challenge was simple. They had accepted the challenge and after hours and hours, they were failing and they knew it. And the faith of hundreds was at stake. I dunno. Very different circumstances.

The scripture does say to love our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 22:39), and those neighbours often include non-believing folks as well as people of other religions. I think mutual respect is the way to go.

That is a nice idea... and when they don't respect your ideas and they mock your God... then what?
Golden rule is so nice to say... and when the other side is wrong and attacking God... did not Israel fight back?
Ah but we are in the NT age... but didn't Paul call out the silliness of worshipping an "unknown god'?
Christians have always been called to show the error of false religion... sometimes I am sure it was with mockery.
Just get ready to leave town in a hurry.

While I agree with not mocking them, the moment that they disrespect God, all kindness is gone.

Certainly we as humans may be compelled to respond strongly against those who ridicule our faith and mock the sacred name of our God. Sometimes we may even be tempted to ask God to pour down His wrath upon such people for good measure. Even Simon Peter acted in violence and drew out his sword to cut off the ear of the servant of the high priest when he came to seize Jesus (Matthew 26:51). However, what did the good Lord say to us about those who go against us?

Matthew 5:38-40: You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

Luke 6:27-28: But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

As followers of Christ, we are called to behave differently from the ways of this world, and that could very well mean that we must purge our desire to fight back in the usual sense of the word. An unbeliever might mock somebody right back as a form of retaliation and for seeking personal "victory" as the end result. A true follower of Christ will turn the other cheek and pray. Remember, we are the salt and the light of the earth (Matthew 5:13-16). Our goal is to let our light shine before others. We do not do as the world does.

If we mock other religions, deprive people of our kindness, and "fight back" in the traditional sense, how are we different from the unbelievers?

1Ki 18:27* And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

The biggest problem with mockery is you are well probably in the same boat just a different room. (My false religion is better than yours)
