Steve, I don't want it to be considered that I am in any way agreeing with our friend TheCatholic but it should be remembered that the "mother of all harlots" means that this mother has daughters and those daughters are equated with harlotry as well.

The reason we have so many denominations is that most vary to some slight degree on with respect to teachings that originated from mother Rome.

Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Harlotry and adultery in the Bible are always associated with spiritual unfaithfulness. The Catholic church claims that she is the "mother of all churches." An inscription on either side of the central entrance door of St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the pope reads:

SACROS(ANCTA) LATERAN(ENSIS) ECCLES(IA)
OMNIUM URBIS ET ORBIS
ECCLESIARUM MATER
ET CAPUT.

It translates to "Sacred Lateran Church, Universally for the City and the World, Supreme Mother of Churches", or “Holy Lateran Church, Mother and Head of all Churches in the City and the Worldâ€, a fulfillment of Revelation 17:5.

That means that any domination that teaches any of "the mother of all harlots" doctrines as truth are committing "spiritual adultery" by teaching the same thing as the harlot. And it's true. Many, if not most, of all protestant denominations teach some form of this harlots woman's doctrines. Things like Sunday sacredness, the state of the dead, the false prophecies of futurism and preterism, tradition mingled with scripture, false feast days replacing Biblical feast days, etc., are all things that this harlot woman has led other demonstrations to accept.

Don't you have a round wafer of flour and water that is a symbol of the "sun" to worship? :lol

Talking of sun worship, the 'Sacrement of Penance' - where sins after baptism can be forgiven through absolution by the priest originated in ancient Babylon where they worshipped the sun god 'Baal'.. :shame

The confessional is not found in the Word of God either...

"A priest is truly another Christ living and walking on earth. He takes Christ's place, represents his person, acts in his name and exercises his authority." St. John Eudes, (quoted in "Living With the Heart", -- Pastoral Letter of Bishop François Thibodeau, Eudist, Bishop of Edmundston for the Feast of Pentecost, June 3, 2001 and the Four Hundredeth Anniversary of the Birth of Saint John Eudes (Nov. 14, 1601).

"Therefore, follow the bishops and priests. Apart from them, there is nothing that can be called a church. Anyone outside is impure; he is worse than an infidel. In other words, anyone who acts apart from the bishop and the priests and deacons does not have a clean conscience. For, all who belong to God and to Jesus Christ are with the bishop. Make no mistake about it: no one who follows another into schism inherits the kingdom of God." -- St. Ignatius of Antioch, Epistle to the Romans, VII:2, TAF, vol. I, p. 82; FOC, p. 124; Epistle to the Philadelphians, ch. 3, II:3; Epistle to the Trallians, ch's. 2 & 7; PG 5:643 ff, (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Malone, Book 5: "The Book of Obedience", Chapter 2: "No One Can Be Saved Who Refuses Obedience to the Pastors of the Church").

"Before dealing with the proofs of revelation afforded by the Bible and tradition, certain preliminary points must first be decided. Of these the most important is that the Church intends the Mass to be regarded as a 'true and proper sacrifice', and will not tolerate the idea that the sacrifice is identical with Holy Communion. That is the sense of a clause from the Council of Trent (Sess. XXII, can. 1): 'If any one saith that in the Mass a true and proper sacrifice is not offered to God; or, that to be offered is nothing else but that Christ is given us to eat; let him be anathema.'" -- The Catholic Encyclopedia, "Sacrifice of the Mass", Section I, Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York.

Nope. There would be no difference between the two.
"Mostly truth" is just as much as an anathema to the complete truth as "only lies and deceit" is.

Fortunately, that's not the choice we're stuck with.

I disagree. 1000 denominations and lets say 50 are false doctrines, I get the chance to pick out of 950 that stick with the truth. One large group that is just false - I get to just pick out of....false doctrines..

What he means is that when a Baptist asks another Baptist to pray for them, they are not praying TO the other Baptist.

Likewise, when we ask Christians in heaven - including Mary - to pray for us, we are not praying TO them, we are asking them to pray for us.

Your problem is that you have a truncated view of the Church. The Church contains those on earth AND in heaven, not just those on earth. And we can ask ANY fellow Christian to pray for us no matter where they are

But, any Church under Rome is just aligning itself with the anti-christ. I would still prefer to pick from 950 denominations that stick with the truth.. ;)

Steve, practically all denominations (say your 950) accept the sabbath of Rome as being Sunday and not the Bible sabbath of the seventh-day. They also accept many other of her teachings. This is why Rev. 17 calls them daughters of the harlot because these denominations accept her and teach her false doctrines.

"Is not every Christian obliged to sanctify Sunday and to abstain on that day from unnecessary servile work? Is not the observance of this law among the most prominent of our sacred duties? But you may search the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify."--James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers, 92nd ed., rev., p. 89 [Cardinal Gibbons (1834-1921) was archbishop of Baltimore. This book was the most famous Catholic book in America a hundred years ago].

"It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church."--Priest Brady, in an address at Elizabeth, N.J. on March 17, 1903, reported in the Elizabeth, N.J. News of March 18, 1903.

"Some of the truths that have been handed down to us by tradition and are not recorded in the Sacred Scriptures, are the following: That there are just seven sacraments; that there is a purgatory; that, in the new law, Sunday should be kept holy instead of the Sabbath; that infants should be baptized, and that there are precisely seventy-two books in the Bible [66 that are inspired, plus 6 apocryphal] "--Francis J. Butler, Holy Family Catechism, No. 3, p. 63 [Butler (1859 - ?) was a Catholic priest of Boston and an author of a series of catechisms].

"It is worthwhile to remember that this observance of Sunday--in which after all, the only Protestant worship consists--not only has no foundation in the Bible, but it is in flagrant contradiction with its letter, which commands rest on the Sabbath, which is Saturday. It was the Catholic Church which, by the authority of Jesus Christ, has transferred this rest to the Sunday in remembrance of the resurrection of our Lord. Thus the observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] Church."
--Monsignor Louis Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today, p. 213 [L.G. Segur (1820-1881), a French prelate, later was appointed as a diplomatic and judicial official in Rome].

Look, I'm only sharing the facts here you know? If you want to associate yourself with Rome then go ahead, I ain't stopping ya! ;)

LOL. Why don't you look up "God" in the dictionary next, and see if you agree with those definitions? You'll get Ra, Buddha, and all kinds of junk.

Next, look up scriptures: You'll get the Koran and other stuff too.

Do you agree with all those definitions? No? Then spare me your feeble apologia. That kind of response is the worst sort of tripe. "Facts"? From I can see you wouldn't know a fact if it bit you

Ok...look, I'm only trying to help you. I will be starting a thread soon:

'Churches under Rome....get out now!' feel free to fight for your Pope there...but I warn you that it will get difficult for you when Christians comment against him and his position, deceit and power..

I believe you have faith and I believe you pray sincerely to God. But, I also believe that Catholicism is a cleverly created sect of satanists that use the name of God and Jesus Christ for an underlying deceitful campaign that links into paganism and world domination. You obviously do not feel that way and I cannot make you understand that. The Bible warns of this situation and we are called to have nothing to do with it and to reprove and rebuke. It does not take much investigation to realise the true intent of Rome. The past events that have been recorded show how Rome is against God and present events show how Rome, through Catholicism, will be spearheading the 'one world religion' that we are warned about in revelations. If you love your Pope then I can only feel sorry for you and pray that you will realise what you are involved in. :praying

As for my definitions in my last post, I see no need in looking at more modern definitions. The point still stands - The Pope = Vicar of Christ. Read what your Popes have been proclaiming, do you not wonder why?

Well, I have a newsflash for you: People in heaven are not dead. In fact, since they behold the face of God, they are more alive that you or I.

Hebrews 12:1: Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us

Again, people in heaven are not dead. And you are wrong: The first Christians most certainly did request intecessions from the saints and martyrs. I sugeest you study a little Christian history.

Here is just one of MANY quotes I can give you: This one from Origen, in 233 AD:

"But not the high priest [Christ] alone prays for those who pray sincerely, but also the angels . . . as also the souls of the saints who have already fallen asleep" (Prayer 11 [A.D. 233]).

Most Christians DO call the pope father. And amny other Christians call their priests father. Protestants represent less than 20% of all Christians. Here are some simple statistics:

The total number of Christians in the world is: 2.1 billion:

Catholics: 1.3 billion
Eastern Orthodox: 0.4 billion
Protestansts (Baptists, Lutherans, etc. etc): 0.4 billion

That means only 20% percent of Christians do NOT call their pastor "father".

.
Actually I have no problem with the pope, or with calling him father.

But the intention of this thread is, I believe, to question the "Father" that we call our God, and then call other men "father" as well ...... The OP is probably insinuating that we "pray" to the "Father" as well as other "fathers"..
