I had it happen on an old 350 with an old cast iron manifold. Also, on my 2002 Malbu, it was a known issue that the intake gasket deteriorated due to the antifreeze.... That was an iron block with an aluminum intake. Felpro solved the problem but if you went to the dealership, you got another gasket that would fail.

Oh, sorry man, I figured it out. The TStat was not stuck open and no visible leaks were anywhere. As soon as I topped off the reservoir bottle in addition to the radiator only it stopped losing coolant level. It would boil off a little vapor into the bottle, and when it couldnt any more because it had fluid in it, it stopped losing coolant. And when I pressure tested it, it was an adapter fitting which slipped down into the radiator at the cap but bypassed the coolant jug tube opening, so it would hold.
I keep checking it and driving it and it's good enough now that I'm going go ahead and flush it one more time and then add the new antifreeze and distilled water. Prolly this weekend.
