[_ Old Earth _] Is there scientific proof humans are apes?

The most stunning demonstration of this was done over a hundred years ago. In a debate, Thomas Huxley debated Richard Owen over the issue. Huxley showed, from Owen's own work, that there was no structure in humans that could not be found in ape, and vice versa.

Point by point, Huxley showed that humans are indeed apes.

Of course humans aren't apes as even children can see. I saw a show on the History Channel entitled "Clash of the Cavemen". No it wasn't produced by Steven Spielberg, it was called a "factual documentary" on neanderthals. :toofunny It gets even funnier. It was about a neanderthal woman who was abducted. :eek2 Now how anyone knew that a neanderthal woman was abducted is anyone's guess because there aren't even any ancient accounts of neanderthals to begin with, but since the imagination is considered evidence in the scientific world, this story fit right in. ;)

However, there was one fact presented in the story. Evolutionary scientists were surprised to find that no neanderthal DNA exists in humans. What's sad is that the only people who were surprised at this were those who claim to be "experts" in science. But those of us who understand that animals can't turn into people weren't surprised at all. ;)

:rolling Well if he buys into the opinions of those who teach "higher" education, I'm sure he would agree with you. :toofunny

There is a huge volume of evidence that humans are an ape species, you just have to learn biology and go to University and learn it. :study :study :study :study :study It cannot be done simply on a forum, because you have it in your mind that any other conclusion to that which you hold to be dear must be the work of some sinister entity. Having a closed mind is in my mind a sin as God gave us the intellectual gifts to discover the world, and to do otherwise is to go against his word.

Universities are places of enlightenment and ennoblement and nothing to do with indoctrination, at least in my country. You use the word liberal in a political sense in an effort to disguise the fact that Universities are the only institutions that exist that can create minds that can see outside the square, with the discipline necessary to actualize intellect into reality. Often those without a real formal education state such emotional edicts. :study :study :study :amen

So are you. I'm somewhat astonished that none of you thought it relevant to point out that we share over 99% of our DNA with apes. By the definition of an ape, we are an ape. If you don't like that then don't say we're not apes; make up a new word.

Actually, it is slightly less that 99% with our closest relatives. But you were close.

First, the documentary was a bit more speculative than most.
Second, I get the feeling you didn't really understand it. :ohmy
Thrid, the "factual" part comes in based on what we do know about Neanderthals. The scenario was, of course, made up to fit the facts and/or theories that the creators wanted to present.
