Is This Really Necessary?

What you need is a church that will let you share those feelings so they can be addressed by the pastor, the elders, and anyone else who has some gift of the Spirit to reach out to you. Surely, you've noticed that doesn't, and can't, happen in the traditional Church meeting of the saints. And the extra-curricular meetings where there is a scant possibility that you can share the meeting most likely will not have a pastor or elder leading it to facilitate all that they were meant to do for the body of Christ.

For the Christian communion means having Christ in common. Which we symbolize through the juice and the bread.

In our Western societies we don't fully understand and appreciate the union of fellowship and brotherhood established when two or more people eat a meal together. In other cultures it's understood that eating equals fellowship. We see this illustrated in Acts 10 where God lowered the sheet of unclean animals lowered down to Peter and Peter coming away with the conclusion that God said 'I am to call no man unclean'. To us God was just saying 'you can eat these things now'.
Not all that in America our western
..I noticed you said my church needs a pastor who is equipped .great like I said vet can be called.I know one in my church but not all churches would have them.

So you don't believe in knowing a church member like family? Suiting in a pew isn't going to accomplish that.eating in the ancient Jewish meant you were very close to them, but why must it be just food? I know a few kosher believers.

No, I think what I said was your more intimate, open meetings need to have the exact same pastoral/ elder leadership construct and control that the regular, traditional service has. But many, if not most, do not.

So you don't believe in knowing a church member like family?
I sure do! That's exactly what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that brotherly, familial union must be based on a shared experience in the Holy Spirit. Not just a text book knowledge of life in God through the Holy Spirit. I mean a group of believers that lives in manifest contact and fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit every day. Then when they get together that is what they talk about. And the church is edified by everyone's contribution of experience, knowledge, or wisdom. But as it is now, the church just meets together and talks about golf scores and other sundry topics and no one has, or shares a useful and edifying encounter with God through the Holy Spirit that can build the body up as each shares.

Suiting in a pew isn't going to accomplish that.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Exactly. We do church wrong!

It isn't just food. It's spiritual unity through the spiritual blood and body of Christ. That is the 'meal' we partake of together (if we actually are) and by which we are unified, if we're just given the chance to share our experiences concerning the spiritual nourishment each of us has and enjoys (if that be the case) that we have in Christ through the Holy Spirit. That is the 'meal' upon which unity and fellowship is to be based on in the church. But as it is now, our unity revolves around common interests, age brackets, careers, hobbies, golf scores, race, yada, yada, yada. Hardly what Christ intended.

I never said that we only have hobbies. Oddly you assumed that.how does one get to know another if they don't have a common like.that's my case.I have people I don't talk to much as I'm not a home schooler I don't care for zombies,or whatever else they are into.I only see them at the mma dojo.

Mike S is talking about flares of worship, acents and food in his church.a Jamaican will see America a bit different then you or me.They talk with an accent ,eat different food, and have a more expressive way of worship.

That's all Mike S is saying. Get around that minor stuff and you find alot in common.

I'm 43.

My wife is 57.jaci ,rosemary are my grandkids.Julie and Nathan as well.

I can relate to Nathan as we have common music interests ,I did listen to what he likes ,ie metallica, nirvana, slayer, and Batman, spiderman and TNMT.

God uses our personalities to reach others .why must be so cookie cutter in church I don't get.is it a sin to center a ministry on a communal interest.ie bikers fir Christ, running groups?
I've been reading both what you and Jethro believe. It's really interesting.
I agree with both of you, if that could be possible.

People have special needs that need to be addressed. This is true.
I also like what Jethro said: That we need to be united by the Holy Spirit since that is "the glue" that had kept, and has kept, believers together.

As far as music. I raised two kids. You should be interested in their music. OTOH, the music they listen to can affect them in many ways. These heavy metal bands you mentioned don't impart the best messages. Nirvana is downright depressing, as was the singer and songwriter Kurt Cobain. What I used to do was to try to get them to listen to good rock music. Sort of guide them a little. But being grandchildren and not with you all the time this would not be an easy task.

My two cents.

Nathan is 17.while I don't agree with that choice but he lived near me in Vero most of the time and now lives in Tampa.

Most secular stuff is unedifying.

I lead our high school Sunday school program and today I was reviewing some resource curricula as I prepare for this year's group. As I was cruising the website of the supplier I was interested in I found a lesson plan that seemed to be pretty good. I also discovered another lesson that peaked my interest so I decided to see what it was about. To my surprise it was a lesson plan geared specifically toward the colored population.

The first thought that went through my mind is, is it necessary to have a curriculum that is skin color oriented? Does God's word apply differently to people based on the color of their skin or their nationality? I could understand if it was just written in a different language?

I don't get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me?

This thread has taken a lot of turns.
Who's the one that's colored?
