I like to write fiction and I want to know if people consider it sinful to write about sinful things such as violence. I'm not promoting any of this. I'm just using it for the purpose of telling a tale.

Good Question. Welcome and congratulations on your first post here.

To answer that I would first have to ask:

1.) What is the intent of your 'tale'? What I mean by that is, what message are you attempting to leave your readers with?

and

2.) Is it possible to get that message across without being specific and/or going there at all.

For what it's worth . . .

Be blessed, Stay blessed!

I don't see an inherent problem with it. It becomes a problem when it is either too graphic, or when it glorifies evil. If sin is shown to have repercussions, it could be a positive vehicle. I'm not much into sic-fi or horror (just preference), but I hate it when evil is given all the power, and God is portrayed as uninvolved/uncaring. :bigfrown

Welcome!!!

Think of some of the great Christian writers, C.S. Lewis and Tolkien...their tales have many things in them that, if taken on their own or used to promote evil, would be sin. But instead, they used their literary skills to craft stories that ultimately honor God and uphold His principles.

I wouldn’t think it was a sin unless you were doing it in a gratuitous manner.
