Is Your Heart Right With God?!

Bonairos

Member
Went for a walk today and my eye caught glimpse of a weathered piece of paper stuck between some tumbleweed. What caused me to pick it up was a faded cross on the back of it. As I retrieved it, I realized it was a witnessing tract. On it was the question, "Is Your Heart Right With God?"

The author then went on to list ways of knowing if it is or not.

What would you say, and more importantly, why would you say it?

Wow, I so misread the title of this thread. It was a combinaton of reading too fast and my eye skipping to another word, but I read, "Is your haircut alright with God?" :lol :D

I was like, ummmm.....

But enough joking around. I would say that our conscience convicts us as the Holy Spirit illuminates it as to whether we are walking in the light with God or not. So the answer to how we know whether our heart is right with God or not is to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us, convicting us of, or comforting us in. And also know that when our heart is not completely right with God that the Holy Spirit is also there for us, acting as the caring and assisting paraclete (helper), to help us get back to that right place with God. Also 1 John points out several practical results and visible evidences of our Christian walk, against which we can measure if we are walking right with God or not (John speaks in terms of light and darkness). So there are both internal and external evidences for us know by.

God Bless!

And I hope my haircut is alright with God! ;)

like josh said, the HolySpirit is our guide in this. its all about how close we want to be to God. if we want the closest walk possible, we have to examine ourselves not only daily, but hourly, to make sure we havent let anything creep in. this is especially important when we work and are surrounded by people who arent always as nice as we would like, lol. a simple slight can grow into bitterness if we dont kill the seed before it sprouts.

same with lust, a simple glance in a beautiful womans direction can, if we dont leave it at that, grow into lust that will infect and eat quickly.

its a constant examination with the HolySpirits help

another important note too,

is to not let this examination become a burden of condemnation. we can easily keep it as a true, heart-felt motive of just wanting to be closer to God as long as we keep the focus on him, and not the arm of the flesh. if we do screw up, run in HIS direction and not go looking for a fig leaf.

It is extremely hard for me to stay right with God, living in a family like mine is really hard when I have a Dad who could care less about those around him. My life is split in two, and I feel like until my whole family is saved I will continue to be this way.

First - Props to cyberjosh for setting a sound spiritual foundation in this thread. I like it.

Having said that,

Would you say it's extremely hard to stay right with God because your family (and dad) situation challenges you to seek God (even more) in your unrest or that your family give reason to stray away from Him?

No judgements. I only ask because you say, "My life is split in two, and I feel like until my whole family is saved I will continue to be this way."

I would say I am seeking God even more. The reason I say it is hard is because I can't keep my faith in God because of stress from my Dad's own sin, and the stress leads me into sin also. To clear something up, my Mom and three of my brothers are saved, my Dad sister and fourth brother (and his family) are not.
