Not everyone would have have known or heard Jesus say do not call anyone Father, they didn't even have the scriptures and not everyone would have ever word he spoke. Maybe Paul and other diciples didnt know, they didn't hear ever word that come put his mouth Paul wasn't even there. Its not like the Apostles were all knowing and perfect.

Perhaps this is why God inspired certain individuals to put it to scrolls.

Not sure what Acts and Joshua has to do with it, but We have all been created by God and God breathed into our nostrils the breath of life that makes us a living soul, Ecc 12:7. He alone is our Father and master. It's a matter of respect for the creator and not the created.

Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

The context would be the entire chapter 23 of Matthew. (Please read it along with my response)
In that chapter, Jesus excoriates the scribes and pharisees for their hypocrisy.
They loved to be called "father" and "teacher". Jesus was saying not to support or imitate (edit) their hypocrisy and oppression of the people and don't suck up to them by calling them "rabbi" (teacher) and "father" because they are frauds.

Don't call frauds "father" and "teacher."

Otherwise, we couldn't address our male parent as "father", "daddy", "dad", "papa", "pop", or any word which is substituted for "father."
And the same is true of the word teacher which Jesus also says not to call any one in that passage. So, "teacher", "professor", "instructor", etc would all be banned.

I think it's the opposite. The Gospel wasn't written down because no one needed to! These people weren't content to just meet on Sunday morning! They also gathered in the Temple on Saturday just as they had always done, and they gathered in their own houses to "break bread." They KNEW this stuff. And once it was written down, not one speck of error was going to get passed them; this was the proverbial "tough crowd."

Actually the early Christians had the Disciples who were called and anointed to teach them personally and also what is written in the Bible were actual letters sent to many early Churches the Disciples went about to establish. The Bible could not contain all that was written and many writings were left out of the canon on purpose, but not God's purpose.

Anyhow, many things Jesus said were to specific people for specific reason. "sell everything you have and give it to the poor" does not mean everyone should sell everything they have and give it to the poor to follow Jesus. Or when the diciples sold everything and it was distibuted to all who need was for a specific situation, it was for a specific mission.

Sometimes rabbinical students upon graduating from one rabbi would try to become telmuhdeem of another Rabbi who had a better reputation and following. (Not all rabbi were equals and the highest order of Rabbi was the Schmeekah Rabbi...he had authority to explain the Torah/Law)

I would say Paul wrote more letters than the other Apostles did. There was both oral and written letters.

I agree and understand your entire post but the quote above I'm still struggling with. Jesus didn't just say not to call them father. He said, "Do not call anyone on earth your father;" NKJV

He seems to be pretty specific.

This is where Jesus' Jewishness is so important. Even if this section was originally written in Greek or Aramaic, He was speaking from a Jewish mind and to a Jewish audience. Hebrew is not specific the way we read this in English; their way of thinking does things like this, which cause some linguistic impossibilities for us.

For example, I love Romans 8:15, and the word "Abba" there connotates a lot more than just "Daddy." The word is chosen not to instruct us to stop using it to refer to our earthly Father, but to inform us more about the type of relationship God wants to have with each and every one of us.
