My grandmother just sent me this book as a present for my upcoming Baptism in a few weeks and it looks pretty interesting. It's about another woman who believed that the Lord was communicating with her so she began journaling her thoughts down and encouraging us to listen and see what He was communicating with us as well and I just wondered if anybody else had heard of this book before.

Yes.

I have had a copy for years, and read mine regularly.

Very inspiring.

Your grandmother meant well but in my view, if you have a used bookstore near you it would be great to donate that book to it.

This book first appeared in print and boasted it was a channeled work. When that received a lot of blow back by Christians to whom it was marketed, as it should, the publisher reprinted it and edited out that part so it would sell.
Here are some Google references you can check. This is not a very good book for the Christian.

I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous and I don't believe any of that's true. I really like the book and it's helping me develop a better relationship with Jesus.

You don't believe the author wrote that her work was channeled ?

That's really weird. You're calling her a liar because you like the book. Hey, to each their own.

If she was communicating with spirits it was with the Lord Himself. And as far as I know that's the only one she claimed to be hearing from. And how do I know this is possible? Because not only were there prophets in the Bible who could do exactly the same thing, but I can as well.

Hmmm, a friend sent me a few pages from this book when I was going through my depression. It was as if God himself was speaking to me through my pain. I liked it so much I bought the book. I liked it then and like it now. But

I did a little checking. Now you can find critics on just about everything. But one guy I take seriously is the blogger Tim Challies. When I found this, I was like, ok, there's something to be concerned about. https://www.challies.com/articles/10-serious-problems-with-jesus-calling/

Yes, I'm aware of that article too. Remember what God's word tells us about the adversary. He was an angel of light and he can also quote scripture.

He's a shapeshifter in his intentions to mislead the church. Sarah Young admitted her work was channeled in the beginning and published that fact in her first editions. Then when fallout arose she took that information, truth, out of future editions, hiding the facts of how she arrived at her materials. That's deception. That says a lot.

Well I have to admit, I found a few of those statements that I agreed with that I found disturbing, but not enough of it to get rid of it.

Again Papa Zoom, you have heard my testimony and I myself have heard from the Lord. I don't know why so many people don't think that's possible. And I do agree with her on some stuff just not all of it. Some of it does in fact disturb me.

Thanks for your honest evaluation.

Awesome, and very balanced.

This is an excerpt from a great article about Jesus Calling.
The last part of the article asks the reader to pray for protection before continuing. Because this book review is about the book prior to omitting the part about channeled spirit giving Sarah Young the book to write. The last part of this article reveals the book and how many times this "channeled spirit" tells the reader to trust him and what he says there. I didn't post those parts but you can see them by scrolling to the end of the article where the pictures of the book pages start.

"Sarah Young, the author of Jesus Calling, describes the unusual way in which this book came about in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network:
"My journey began with a devotional book (God Calling) written in the 1930's by two women who practiced waiting in God's Presence, writing the messages they received as they 'listened.' About a year after I started reading this book, I began to wonder if I too could receive messages during my times of communing with God. I had been writing in prayer journals for years, but this was one-way communication: 'monologue.' I knew that God communicates through the Bible (and I treasure His Word), but I wondered what He might say to me personally on a given day. So I decided to 'listen' to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever I sensed He was saying. Of course, I wasn't listening for an audible voice; I was seeking the 'still, small voice' of God in my mind/heart." (Q and A with Sarah Young, CBN)

But the Bible does not tell us to sit quietly and attempt to hear words from God. In fact, what is being described above by Sarah Young is an extremely occultic practice known in occultic circles as "automatic writing." Wikipedia describes this practice thusly:
"Automatic writing or psychography is an alleged psychic ability allowing a person to produce written words without consciously writing. The words are claimed to arise from a subconscious, spiritual or supernatural source." (online source)

Of course we all as His sheep should be hearing His voice daily.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27 NKJV

And I do agree with her on some stuff just not all of it.

Very well said.

Well I have to admit, I found a few of those statements that I agreed with that I found disturbing, but not enough of it to get rid of it.

If you found parts of the spirit speaking in that book disturbing then that should tell you to put it down. Do you read the bible and find Jesus' words disturbing?

How does someone read a book supposedly channeled by Jesus to Sarah Young through a method God condemned and admittedly find parts disturbing and still think it is of God?
.

I already told you, I really don't think it's condemned because the Lord has spoken with me Himself and that's why my grandmother gave me the book in the first place. So I agree with her on the fact that it's possible. And no I won't put it down because I like doing it every day. I disagree with some stuff in the Bible due to contradictions that I find but that doesn't stop me from reading it because I agree with most everything that it has in there.

There's a world of difference between every Christian hearing from God and the works of Sarah Young, who is not of God.
I found that book at a buyers club years ago and opened it at random to read because the title intrigued me. I ended up buying it. Then I found that it was doctrine of demons and not of my Lord at all.
I didn't do as was advised by someone else here and give it to a used book store because that would bring evil to another unsuspecting reader. I burned it.

Satan is a seducer. No one here will ever lead someone who is intrigued by his machinations out of that illusion. They'll have to find out for themselves through experience. Don't bother to hope to reach those who sound alike as fans of this book that has been on the market for 13 years now and is still a top seller. It is true, if Young was in the light of Christ from the beginning she would have never removed the information about a channeled spirit informing her of what to write on its behalf as it called itself Jesus. She removed that from future copies because she wanted to deceive!
Jesus/God speaks to the Christian today. He doesn't deliver a new covenant to one woman to deliver to the world as a book. Jesus called through the Bible. And he calls and speaks to those who are his personally. He doesn't speak through a book that admittedly one here has said makes them uneasy when reading it. If that isn't a sign there's just blindness being called forth and that is not of Christ who opens the eyes of the blind. Not shuts them. God doesn't make us feel uneasy. Satan does.

Let those meant to learn a hard lesson learn it. God knows what he's doing.

It has been a famous and well-loved book for a long time. My wife has a copy she reads all the time.

God speaks to us through His word and there is a testifying from the Holy Spirit to our spirit (I'm not sure how to explain it). But, it's never something outside of God's word. When God "speaks to me" it's usually in the form of verses coming to my mind. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin so in my case, bringing to my mind an unconfessed sin.

If I were to continue to read this book, I would take lightly the words of the author and measure them against the verses she shares at the end of each devotional. Keeping in mind these are not Jesus' "actual" words is important. That said, when I read the book, I understood that the author was taking liberties with the text but I never thought of the words as the actual words of Jesus.

I would caution any reader to read this book with care and definitely check out the links I provided. Knowledge is power.

Christianbook.com carries it. It would be fun and maybe instructive to analyze just one of her pages and comment on that. I really needed encouragement during my depression and each devotional was like it was written to me personally. Maybe it was just so uplifting because I was so low.

I still say view this book with caution in light of the story behind the book. For some people, it will be wise not to read the book at all. There are plenty of other books to choose from.
