Jn 17:
2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
One of the most misunderstood truthes of scripture, is that the Lord Jesus christ came to save all of humanity as in every individual in the world.
But this is not the truth of scripture, but a fabrication and lie from the father of lies.jn 8:
44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The truth is that Jesus christ came to do the will of The Father, which was to undertake and secure the everlasting felecity of those given to him by the Father..jn 6:
37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
In vs 37, all the father giveth me refers to election, being chosen in christ before the world began.
Look at rom 11 7:
7What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
The words, the election have obtained it..cp 2 tim 2:
10Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
This is the same as in rom 11 7, The election..there is no gospel of salvation, if their is no election to obtain it..The salvation for those given to Jesus christ..
The election is also called the election of grace rom 11:
5Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
And if by grace, no more of works..their is no salvation claims, without being of the election of grace...
6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
same thing is expressed in eph 2 8 9
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Yes, the word election is not used here in eph 2 passage, but nevertheless its implied from the foundational teaching of eph 1:
4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Now its important to see something here about the election of grace. where does this grace come from and when ? 2 tim 1:
9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
How was grace given to the elect before we had a actual being ? Because it was given to the head of the election of grace, who did have a actual being, this being, The Lord Jesus christ, the God Man Mediator. He was setup before all worlds to be the head of his body, the saviour of his body the church.. So it was in Him, all grace for his body, church was given, it was stored up in him..jn 1:
14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Its as his body, and of the election of grace, we recieve communications of grace from him, in the time state.. vs:
16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
This is not a recieving as in a offer of grace, for we had no actual being when given it, in our head, but its a effectual communicatin, a giving to each member of the election of grace, its meted out measure for that individual..eph 4:
7But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
This is not an offer, but a sovereign distrubtion of grace, purposed and planned for each member of christ body, before the world began..
The elect, before the world began, was a seed, a offspring, given to the Lord Jesus christ...
ps 22:
30A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
isa 53:
10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
so this is what Jesus means in jn 17 2 , 9..those given him are the seed, the election of grace.
It is these that was the Fathers will for christ to come, to accomplish their eternal salvation..It is for these, and these only, christ prayed for in vs 9:
9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
