Jesus Christ and Holy Communion

People continually practice the ritual of communion believing that it will fend off the continued struggle against our sinful nature which is an ongoing, never ending battle. Many Christians regard communion as a cure-all for the accumulation of their sins in their day to day lives. But consider what happened at the very first communion performed by Jesus Christ.

The apostle Judas Iscariot was present at the very first communion, was possessed by Satan, dipped his bread into the wine at the very same time as Jesus Christ, and yet this act did not change anything about Judas. Judas was still possessed by Satan after taking communion with Jesus Christ - meaning that the act of communion did not drive Satan out of the body of Judas! Therefore the bread (host) did not become Jesus Christ as many christian religions believe! If the bread actually became Jesus Christ then there would be two Jesus Christ's present at that first communion – an impossibility!

It is clear that Jesus Christ in allowing Judas, who was possessed by Satan, to take communion with him that Jesus Christ – God become man – was showing that communion wasn't an act that could produce any kind of holiness, that would come later by the indwelling Holy Spirit!

Again, communion does not produce any kind of holiness!

Many Christians affix a ritualistic obedience to communion as a spiritual catharsis to purge their lives of the desire, and consequences, of sin. If this were the case then Satan would have fled the body of Judas right after Judas took communion with Jesus Christ– which did not happen! Communion is not an act to ward off the evil desires in our sinful heart, or to quiet our own sinful lusts. It is a remembrance of Jesus Christ's work on the cross where he took upon himself all the sins of the world so that anyone who believes in him will have forgiveness of their sins and life eternal with God Jesus Christ, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit.

If you seek the true power of God then just believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and get baptized! When you receive the Holy Spirit into your life the Holy Spirit will help you ward off the evil desires of the flesh which will always be with us until we receive a new sinless body in heaven.

God Bless

note:

Notice that if the bread of communion (host) actually became Jesus Christ then Satan would have been made Holy (sinless) along with Judas. One begins to wonder that once Satan realized that communion didn't change his sinful standing with God that Satan became so enraged that he drove Judas to betray Jesus Christ to exact his revenge.

Also consider that when Jesus Christ and Judas took communion at the same time, and from the same bowl, that Jesus Christ's sinless saliva was instantly shared with Judas. And yet Judas didn't become sinless, nor did sharing Jesus Christ's sinless saliva drive out Satan from Judas! Many people believe that Mary, Jesus Christ's mother, was sinless because she shared Jesus Christ's sinless blood during pregnancy. But here you have Judas sharing Jesus Christ's sinless saliva and yet Judas did not become sinless! Both Mary mother of God and the Apostle Judas did not become sinless just because they shared any of Jesus Christ's bodily fluids.

You are correct.

Luke 22
19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

1 Corinthians 11
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

No mention of absolving sins.
.

Gary was right on with his post, I agree. I would like to mention though, 1 Corinthians 11:27-30 describes what happens if folk take the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner, which is a ho hum attitude about Communion. There are bad things that happen to those who don't take the Lord's Supper seriously. They get sick and even die. So the reverse is true if folk examine themselves for un-confessed sin and realize that they are remembering Jesus and His sacrifice for us. I think that these people will continue to have good health and a blessed life instead of the opposite. Just a thought.

I agree with you that communion does not absolve sin. However, I am curious, I do not know of any Protestant denomination or even non-denominational Christian faith that believes it does. Can you give an example of one?

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
1Co 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
1Co 11:33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
1Co 11:34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

I see this as meaning that they were eating the bread and drinking the wine as if it were just any other meal, and were not waiting for others to get there, not sharing in fellowship but gluttons.

Paul was saying, Hey this isn't just any old meal, this is in remembrance of His works on the cross.

It used to bother me when a Church I would visit would let anyone partake of communion.I think it needs to be taken by those who know and believe in Jesus Christ.

Taking communion has nothing to do with forgiveness of sin, but of that as remembrance as we are also now part of Christ life, death and resurrection as we have been Spiritually reborn made renewed by Gods very Spirit, John 3:3-7. The bread represents that of Christ body being broken for us and the wine represents that of the blood of Christ being the last final sacrifice for our sin. There is a very clear warning in verse 27 that we need to be worthy to eat the bread and drink of the cup as we are made righteous before Him. Not of our own righteousness as that is like a filthy rag to God, but of Gods righteousness found in us that makes us worthy to partake.

1Co 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
1Co 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
1Co 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
