Jethro Tull...anyone?

Nick

Member
Just going through a 'golden oldie' phase at the moment, and really digging the Jethro Tull. So far I've gone through This Was, Stand Up and am now on Aquallung, then I"ll be moving onto Thick as a Brick etc. I'll go right up to Tull.com.

Any other JT fans here?

lol, i have coworkers who grew up on him, they are old enough to my dad. i do like his style and my bro likes him as well

.

Oh those old hippie days! :crazy

I Loved Ian Hunters flute playing! Back in the day, along with Jethro Tull, I loved the band Yes. They were pretty much along the same style of music, but that's not to say they weren't each unique in their own way... for sure!

.

Got to see Jethro Tull in 72 or 73, and I still listen to them. I still have Aqualung and Thick As A Brick, and I still play them. Only now it's on CD, but I still have Aqualung on album, and thick as a brick on 8 track. And yes Relic, I was a Flower Child.

I went to a JT concernt in '05. Pretty cool stuff, though you can tell that they're getting old. Music's still good, or even better than it was!

Dudette, Ian Hunter sang and played guitar for Mott the Hoople. :lol

Ian Anderson is from Tull. :D

I used to like them but Ian has said some pretty negative things about Christianity and about the USA, ever since 9-11. :mad

I still listen to Yes though. Jon Anderson and Chris Squire both grew up as Christians and went to parochial schools in England. :yes

What albums where you into, Vic?

I was listening to Yes's "Going for the One" last night in the car. :thumb
That church organ.....oh yeah! :D

Time and a Word, The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Yessongs, Relayer, Going for the One, 90125.

If anyone likes Yes, check out the first album by former guitarst Peter Banks' band Flash. :yes

.

OH yoy, Vic.
My, oopsie. I knew it was Ian Anderson... Don't know why Hunter came out of my fingers to type. :crazy :lol Thanks for the correction. :thumb :yes

I don't listen to my old stuff too much anymore... The lyrics are just way too "far out" :lol

I prefer Christian based lyrics these days. But sad thing is.... there's too many so called "Christian" type lyrics that are looking like the secular... That heavy metal Christian based music is just "too far out" too! For some reason, I just can't picture Jesus playing heavy metal music and screaming on a stage lyrics to music that are barely audible and the only way one could understand what is being "screamed" is by actually reading the lyrics... and then those lyrics are again..... really "weird" and "too far out" also. The heaviest I'll get with Christians Music is some of the old DCTalk stuff. that's really light compared to a lot of the other stuff.

Anyway, When it comes to Jethro Tull.... well, every time I hear the name Jethro Tull... immediately, the lyric, "snot is running down his nose", comes to mind, and then the song begins going through my head...
"Sitting on a park bench,
Eyeing idle girls with bad intent.
Snot is running down his nose.
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes. ....
"
... Real nice trigger, aye? :crazy No it's not ;) Man the JUNK we used to listen too! Sheech! :crazy No thanks.... I'll listen to other songs that are more of an encouragement towards repentance and salvation, etc.

Although.... I must admit.... not all of the music that I liked back then was all that bad. The group Yes being among those few. :yes

Yo, Can you imagine us being 80 - 90 years old and pulling out some of our old albums and getting down to the groove of them? :lol What a sight to see! :silly :lol

That happened to me three nights ago. We were in the city and we're going through Hyde Park in Sydney CBD. My brother is tired, and right next to him is a park bench. Dad says "why don't you sit down?". And I go: "sitting on a park bench..." and since Dad knows Jethro Tull better than Ian Anderson himself :D he joins in.

It was awesome! :lol

"Feeling alone, the armies up the road, salvation alamode, with a cup of tea" :D

That album is just plain nutty. We don't that much humor in music anymore. :verysad

Wow Vic, I liked Mott The Hoople, those are bands that you don't hear much about anymore, like Uriah Heep, and Humble Pie, with Steve Marriot, deceased and T Rex, Mark Bolan deceased, and also Grand Funk, Chicago, Mountain, Yes, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, The Allman Brothers, The Doors, King Crimson, Alice Cooper, who is now saved, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, Canned Heat, I could just go on and on. But I still listen to these bands. And Vic I have most of the Yes stuff. My iPod is full of these old bands, as well as old R&B and Funk.

Sitting on a park bench --
eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose --
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Hey, aqualung
Drying in the cold sun --
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Hey, aqualung
Feeling like a dead duck --
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
Oh/Hey, aqualung
Sun streaking cold --
an old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog end
he goes down to the bog
and warms his feet.

Feeling alone --
the army's up the road
salvation a la mode and
a cup of tea.
Aqualung my friend --
don't you start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's only me.
Do you still remember
December's foggy freeze --
when the ice that
clings on to your beard is
screaming agony.
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
with deep-sea-diver sounds,
and the flowers bloom like
madness in the spring.

Sun streaking cold --
an old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog end
he goes down to the bog
and warms his feet.

Feeling alone --
the army's up the road
salvation a la mode and
a cup of tea.
Aqualung my friend --
don't you start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's only me.

Aqualung my friend --
don't you start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's only me. Whoa.

Here's some more support for ya.

Matthew 15: 10-20

10Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. 11What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' "

12Then the disciples came to him and asked, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?"

13He replied, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. 14Leave them; they are blind guides.[a] If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit."

15Peter said, "Explain the parable to us."

16"Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. 17"Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "

From this passage, I'm getting that it's not what goes into you that matters, but what comes out.
