The 2nd Amendment is about self defense, not hunting nor target shooting. It's an inalienable right, and it's guaranteed in a Bill of Rights, not a Bill of Needs.

I am republishing my three-part series about the LA Riots of 1992 in which Karen and I and the children were trapped for several frightening hours. We were unarmed, helpless save our wits. The police were conspicuously absent and the bad guys, frequently armed with heavy weapons, owned the streets. It was a defining moment in my life.

I’m reposting this series as a cautionary tale because the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre has sharpened the claws of the statist utopians, whose ultimate aim is to disarm law-abiding American citizens.

Just as Obamacare has nothing to do with health, and cap and trade has nothing to do with so-called global warming, anti-gun laws have nothing to do with saving children’s lives.

It’s just another opportunity for the left to centralize power.

If the Los Angeles riots taught us anything it’s that you’re a fool if you count on the authorities to protect you in times of civil chaos — in fact, at any time. In the end, only I can protect my family.​

I’m never, ever going to allow myself to be outgunned by the bad guys. All the gun laws that are on the books—and there are thousands of them—just make it that much easier for the barbarians to amass weapons, and for law-abiding people like you and me to be at their mercy.

If you outlaw weapons, as so many squishy liberals yearn to do, well then, only the state and the outlaws will be armed. Which leaves ordinary citizens at the mercy of an all powerful government and a variety of merciless criminal sub cultures.

One man's' opinion

It's ironic that the majority of America's adults have a constitutional right to bear arms. And gun sales have skyrocketed in the past decade. But when demented males show up at malls, and churches, and schools, and movie theaters, and fast food restaurants; and start executing people at random: who's shooting back at them? Nobody is shooting back at them and that's because people's guns are at home, where the likelihood of ever needing them for the defense of life and/or property is highly unlikely.

In other words; we don't need to take guns away from America's armed citizens. On the contrary, we need to encourage America's armed citizens to carry their guns with them when they leave the relative safety of their homes if we're ever to have any hope of curtailing mad men.

An excellent non-lethal alternative to a gun is bear spray. Now don't confuse bear spray with pepper spray. Bear spray doesn't squirt a puny little stream of liquid. It's formulated to set up a cloud of nasty mist between you and the bear. You don't have to be close to the bear for it to work either as bear spray propellants are strong and can shoot up to twenty feet whereas you have to be up close and personal to use pepper spray.

Another benefit is that you don't have to hit a bear in the eyes in order for bear spray to be effective. All you have to do is generate a cloud of mist between you and the bear and it will not come through it to get you; and neither will a demented man with a gun. The stuff is really potent.

I accidentally released just a tiny little puff in my family room and could not go in there to open a window without a half-mask industrial respirator fitted with a chemical filter. It literally strangled my windpipe and made me gag and choke; and the mist lingered too. If a teacher were to fog a hallway with that stuff, I guarantee you no shooter, no matter how deranged, would come through it to their classroom. And if he's already in the room, one hefty shot of that stuff in his direction will force him to exit pronto and the only danger to the kids will be temporary coughing and gagging which as a trade-off is a whole lot better than bullet wounds.

In Norway we dont really have any urban culture with the exception of Oslo. Most people have guns in their homes, but you are not allowed to defend yourself in your own home. A citizen in my former city caught a guy raping his 7 year old daughter, he shot the rapist and was sent to jail. So it only helps to a certain point having a shotgun in your home, the law needs to allow you to defend yourself and your family as well. But ofc its better going to jail and saving your daughter than the opposite.

The gangs in oslo have weapons though, and also the gypsie bands. They will break into your house and murder you. I would rather have a gun just in case than to not have one. When I moved though I didn't bring my gun with me because I need to fill out a police form stating why I'm moving the gun, it takes like 4 weeks to get an approval. But I do feel safer sleeping with my combat knife on my nighttable.

But more back on topic the rolemodel for gun ownership is Switzerland though, mandatory gun training and gun ownership. This is too make Switzerland impossible to occupy by a foreign power and also make it impossible for a dictator to take control. Maybe thats one of the reasons the socialist in the EU parliament hate Switzerland so much. That and the fact that all the rich people in Europe are fleeing to Switzerland.

Granted Switzerland's total population is ~8 million. Taking per capita into account, you are 5x more likely to be murdered in the USA.

Only 481 accounts of reported rapes? Wow, I would suggest we also include mandatory gun training and ownership/carry for all females. In norway its population around 4 million people and we have 25,000 reported cases of rape every year (90% of all rapes are comitted by non citizens).

Indeed. I don't mind immigrants keeping their traditional clothing/eating habits or whatever, but I do expect and as a citizen I demand everyone assimilate into the Norwegian jurisprudence and respect the Law.

They say women in norway dress as sluts and that gives them the right to rape them. Its sick and disgusting. The statistic that is not reported are the daughters of immigrants who get raped and are too terrified to report it due to retaliation, even by their own family. Gotta love leftist society...
