Jews in Israel who believe in Yeshua growing

Thanks Jason!

Why do the Jews make it a point to call Jesus Yeshu?
Because that is His name? That reads kind of flippant but is not meant that way,His name really is Yeshu rather than Jesus.

Does anyone here believe that it is okay for English people to call Jesus Yeshu or Yeshua like people in the Hebrew Roots movement do? There are people out there that are saying we have to call the characters in the Bible by there Hebrew names. Is it okay to speak of the name of Jesus translated in another language?

There's a big difference between "is it ok" and "do we have to". The name Jesus is the anglicized form of the hellenized (Greek) version of a Hebrew name. Is it acceptable to call someone by their real name, rather than one that has been through two translations? Yes, in my opinion it is. Do we have to? No. You can call him Jesus, if that's what you're comfortable with (which it is for most people). You can also call the composer of The Four Seasons Joseph Green. That's how Giuseppe Verdi translates into English.

Sorta like a rose by any other name is still a rose...

Sorta like a rose by any other name is still a rose...

Exactly.:thumbsup
His actual name is beyond our understanding, so what matters is that we consider Him by any other name as 'The Faithful and True Word of God'.:twocents

Rev 19:11 ¶ And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev 19:12 - His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Rev 19:13 - And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

What's the difference between Yeshu and Yeshua?

To many who are familiar with the language, culture, & texts understand that dropping the last letter the ayin from Yeshua changes the meaning of the name to one that many consider a slur due to historical, cultural, & textual reasons.

sam21 , since my name is greek,

you may call me then this:healer
jason;
Classical Mythology . a hero, the leader of the Argonauts, who at the request of his uncle Pelias retrieved the Golden Fleece from King Aeëtes of Colchis with the help of Medea.
2. a male given name: from a Greek word meaning “healer.â€

i think our Lord is bigger then this, yes however its translated to the native language or any we ought to refere it. why then would the Lord allow greek to be used if he only wanted his name in hebrew spoken or known?

Why not? I call Jesus by many of His names, and the Father as well.

Since so many Israelis speak English are they required to use the KJV just like Paul did?

The only thing that was a bit disturbing was the statement made that they reject being considered Christians. They love the entire word of God, both Old and New Testaments, so I can;t understand why they cannot take on the name of Christian in addition to their Messianic Jew identity, just as the first Jewish converts did as recorded in scripture.

There are many reasons why Jews are reluctant to adopt the name ‘Christian’. From the massacre of Jews throughout the ages, in the name of Christianity, to being alienated by their own people, there are issues that non-Jews (Gentiles) find difficult to understand.

I am a Jew by birth and here is my reason why the name ‘Christian’ may not be appropriate for natural born Jews.

The title ‘Christ’ is Greek and designation ‘Christian’ with its religion has become, to the Jew, a hellenisation of the Jewish belief system, traditions and scriptures. Why should Jews be expected to surrender these and accept another belief system that, to the Jew, has distanced itself from its Jewish beginnings.

Jews are Jews and to many of them, believing in Yeshua as mashiach (the messiah) is not Christianity but another strand of Judaism. They do not believe Yeshua came to start a new belief system but to fulfil the ancient one, Judaism. Therefore, it should not surprise those who call themselves Christian that Jews, who believe in Yeshua, want to be called Jews or Messianic Jews. From the Jewish perspective, it makes more sense for non-Jew Yeshua believers (Christians) to be called Jews (converts) as well.

But some of these branches from Abraham's tree--some of the people of Israel--have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God's special olive tree. NIV Romans 11:17

Ah, I seem to pick up on a bit of that. Why do some Jews call Him "Yoske" what does that mean? I'm assuming it's also a type of slur.

yes but as a jew you do realise that the jews still in judaism dont like the messaniac jews and say they are a cult and say that they call themselves christians.

so I can;t understand why they cannot take on the name of Christian in addition to their Messianic Jew identity,

The name "Christ-ian" was coined in Antioch as a term of derision for the apostles and other believers in Christ.

{26} and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 11:26 (NASB)

I suspect they don't want the label anymore than the early disciples did: it was intended as an insult to their Jewish heritage.
