Glad you warned about it.
I can't understand why they have a movie about supermen etc designed to attract young and teenagers and then have it as an R!? :verysad
I saw the previews so knew it would be a bit like that and read why it was an 'R'. I didn't know about the rape scene glad you told us, so wouldn't go and see it (I rarely see any "R"s any more)
Ginger, it's not really intended for younger viewers. Just like the graphic novel, it's intended for mature viewers only.
And "supermen" is a bit of a misnomer. Only one of these characters has any actual powers...the whole driving point of the GN and the movie is the frailty of men, even costumed crimefighters.
Khaine, no I wasn't being ironic
I realised it's not intended
by the maker for younger viewers. I suppose I was thinking that with so many 'supermen' type movies that are aimed at the young then some young boys would want to see this, not knowing about the whole history of the comic books, or what superpowers these people have etc. And they would sneak in (with most theatres you can buy a ticket for a PG and then walk into any movie) and watch it, not knowing really how bad it is.
I realise the people who made it could say 'well that's not our responsibility, our problem'. But did they really have to include a rape scene and have so much graphic nudity and sex in it, (I don't know how much violence or language was in it) to further the story?
I don't understand why movies have that stuff in it, for movies clearly aimed at adults (to me it's pointless apart from the Christian angle) but to have a movie with so many characters 'dressed up' in superhero outfits, have a smiley as their logo (yes as an adult looking at it, I know its dark, but would a kid get that?) in amongst so many superhero movies aimed either at kids or teens, is not wise, especially the rape scene.
I know it's a parents responsibility and thanks to Misfit here they are warned. But if a parent wasn't that into the history of this in comic books and just casually saw the smiley, or thought it was about a group of superpeople like fantastic four and never saw the previews of it - I doubt they would imagine all the stuff that was in it.
Or the casual person thinking it's just like Batman etc and ended up seeing it. Anyway I know I am in the minority, but it's a christian website so if I can't bemoan about the declining standard in movies today, where else can I do it ;)
tangent -
I make it a point to really research a movie and sometimes have to go to a few different internet sites to find out why it is a certain rating. But I get annoyed when I see a rating so small you can't even see it. I think all movies, previews, posters etc should have a big rating on it and tell you why. As sometimes I am out with friends, they say let's catch a movie - "x' is good. I may have never heard of it, am standing in the movies and can't find out what the rating is and why, quickly.
