Hello everyone. This happens to be the first Christian forum that I have joined, and am doing so with the hope of having intellectual and interesting discourse.

A little about myself: I was raised in the UCC, and at the age of 17, became the youngest deacon in my family's church. I felt as though the Lord was calling me to be a missionary, and doors began opening in that direction. However, at the age of 21, I began questioning my faith, and by the age of 23, I no longer considered myself a Christian. I considered myself a deist until my late 20's/early 30's, in which I eventually resolved to atheism.

I must admit, I went through a period of deep anger and hatred towards Christianity and religion in general. But time and age has mostly healed those wounds.

Currently, regarding deism, I am an agnostic atheist. I hold the position that one cannot prove the existence of a god, just as one cannot prove that a god does not exist; and I choose the position that I do not believe that a god exists.

But in regards to the 3 Abrahamic religions, I am an atheist. I contend that there is more than adequate evidence to dispute the validity of all 3 religions.

Regardless of my position and my contentions, I continue to express the opinion that all should be free to believe as they so choose. I am a very tolerant individual that truly believes in the freedom of belief. I respect every individuals right to believe as they so choose, although I do not respect everyones specific beliefs.

It just so happens that my 2 favorite things in the world is discussing religion and politics, which are probably the 2 things that most people hate to discuss the most!!!

I apologize for the long intro, but I do tend to be a little long-winded, which results in these short novels!!

This is true enough. If either side could prove their position conclusively, we wouldn't still be sharing different beliefs.

Welcome to CFnet! :waving

I can't help but comment that the UCC was probably instrumental in putting you where you are today, but I'm sure this will come up on the board. ;)

Glad you joined! :thumbsup

Welcome Citizen ... :) ... well I will pray that you'll allow God back into your heart - he really is your best friend ...

Welcome to the forum. :wave

Some time ago I was at a similar place in my faith journey as you are.... similar, but not quite the same. :) There are others on this forum who have also been in a similar place as you are in their faith journey.

It may be just semantics, but I call my journey a seeking of truth (not a faith journey). It would be interesting to hear if others have truly been in a similar position as mine.

Thanks for the welcome.
