Kabbalah

Hello,
Do any of you have any interesting articles on Kabbalah? Maybe some apologetic ones? I have a friend who has become very into this religion, and I've heard a lot of it on the news concerning different hollywood stars and they're new interest in it. If any of you know of any sites or books that I could find with a Christian evaluation of it, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks ;)

Does this have to do with Bible codes in the Old Testament?

Yeah, something about reading the Bible using numeric equivalents because it can show "hidden meanings." This page describes in a little more detail: http://www.carm.org/bible/greek_hebrew_letters.htm From what I gather Kabbahlists really don't believe in the literal reading of the Bible (or Old Testement). No absolutes, etc. I was just wondering if anyone had any information that goes farther in detail perhaps.

I read a book last summer called "The Bible Code" (don't remember the author's name) but anyway, it was written by a guy who I believe was an atheist (or at least not a christian) anyway, the guy was a reporter and studed the bible code using a computer generated program and became convinced of it's validity. He had charts showing the Hebrew characters arranged in patterns to show yitzak Rabin's assasination and things like that. Intersteing reading, don't know if I buy it... But I highly recommend this book.

Some christians are into bible codes. Perry Stone, Carl Baugh, Kent Hovind to name a few.

I went to church with a guy who believed in Bible codes, but was quick to mention that the kabballah was more or less witchcraft. Trying to use the code as a crystal ball. Anyway, I'm certainly no authority on this matter...

I recently read a fiction book called " Dante's Equation" which is about kaballah. I don't read a lot of fiction, but it was a peretty good read

bible codes are proven fake you can put any name in the first 2 sylibles and make it say anything.

McQ,

I only know that Kabbalah is essentially ancient Jewish mysticism and that Madonna is one of it's adherents (hence her recent name change to "Ruth").

Look here if you want to find out for yourself what it is about:

Some apologetics stuff that I haven't really looked at so I couldn't tell you whether or not it is any good:

http://www.apologeticsindex.org/k03.html

I have an extensive list of apologetics sites and this is all I could find on kaballah.

A while back, I asked one of my learned Jewish friends at work about the Kabbalah. She told me it was a type of Jewish mysticism and should be left up to the more knowledgable rabbis and students. So I did some research on it and came up with this...

http://www.digital-brilliance.com/kab/f ... isKabbalah

Excerpt:
Kabbalah is an aspect of Jewish mysticism. It consists of a large body of speculation on the nature of divinity, the creation, the origin and fate of the soul, and the role of human beings. It consists also of meditative, devotional, mystical and magical practices which were taught only to a select few and for this reason Kabbalah is regarded as an esoteric offshoot of Judaism. Some aspects of Kabbalah have been studied and used by non-Jews for several hundred years...

...Some aspects of traditional Kabbalah are so deeply intertwined with Jewish religious beliefs and practice that they are meaningless outside of this content. Other aspects of Kabbalah (what I refer to below as Hermetic Kabbalah) have been studied and practiced outside of Judaism for so long that they have a distinct identity in their own right, and no, you do not have to be Jewish to study them, any more than you need to be English to study the Law of Gravitation.

However, if you choose to study Kabbalah by name you should recognise that Kabbalah was and is a part of Judaism, and an important part of the history of Jewish people, and respect the beliefs which not only gave rise to Kabbalah, but which are still an essential part of Jewish faith..
Lately, much of our social and cultural elite (ugh) have turned this into sort of a New Age movement. :o

Thanks very much all! Free, I've done a couple searches on my different apologetics sites too, and I couldn't find anything either. But thanks for the sites you provided! :) Thanks mhess13, I don't believe that it's "sinful" or anything like that to be interested in numeric equivalents, but I do not believe in reading God's Word strictly that way either. When you do, you neglect what He has really said, and if God took the pains to tell us all that, why wouldn't He make it simple for us to understand. ;)
Yeah, it is very New Agey from what I've heard. "Turning on the light in your soul", inner-self and all that stuff. Doesn't seem to have any belief in sin.
